| Customer Reviews:
Great Product. January 19, 2008 After reviewing various GPS units this product had the best rating, so I decided to purchase for my wife for Christmas. The lived up to all the reviews and is very easy to use and easy to install. After reading the quick start guide the unit was installed and operational in 5 to 10 minutes. We would recommend this Product.
a bargain January 18, 2008 The Mioc230 is easy to use and is quite a bargain when compared to other brands of similar features. I'm glad I bought it. I suggest a thorough search for the least price.
Puny Database January 18, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
We live in the City of Seattle. Enter the "points of interest" page any look for a grocery store and the closest one that pops up is up in Marysville, WA. 35 miles away. The only full and accurate database I found was hospitals.
Additionally, Canada is not included; as we are 2.5 hours from the border, this was a no go.
Also, user interface was clumsy and difficult to use for my non-techy wife.
We returned it.
You get what you pay for.... January 14, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
After using the Mio C230 for about a month I can honestly say you get what you pay for. The C230 is nice little GPS, nothing fancy. The text to speech is very nice for this price range and helps a lot. It's accurate, and the route recalculations are pretty quick and accurate if you've missed a turn.
The biggest drawback is the Points of Interest (POI). At about 1 million it falls far short of the POI provided by other services. I actually find myself surprised when it has a restaurant or service I want. It also could use an update to some of it's maps. Some smaller back roads do not appear in the database. This can be very frustrating when trying to type in an address for a road that Mio does not think is there. When this happens I tend to use the cross street function which works pretty well as a work around.
Setup was easy and it take about 2-3 minutes to find us from a cold start. At $160, it's a decent GPS but if I had it to do all over again I might spend another $100-150 and get one that has more info in it's database...
Great Value and Very Responsive Signal. January 14, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
To start, I am very new to GPS technology. After seeing my friends MIO c220 I was fascinated and decided to get a GPS myself. I was mainly deciding between the Garmin and Tom Tom. After evaluating both the pros/cons of each I thought about that first MIO my friend had and came across the MIO C230.
Now you ask, what can this little guy do:
1. Very compact - I would say the screen is a little bit bigger then a playing card. I was surprised how easily this unit fits into your pants pocket.
2. Multi-point routes - Meaning that you can set multiple routes to progress one after another. For example, suppose you want to go from your current location, to the gym, then to a restaurant. You can program this unit from the start so one route will follow after another in order.
3. Signal - the signal is VERY strong.
4. Text-To-Speech - Yes, it will say "Turn left on YONGE St in 500 M"
5. Canada Maps - The standard unit does not come with these maps. However, You can easily download these from the net (use google).
6. Customizable - Search google.
7. Cost - A text to speech GPS for as low as $150 - $175. Well worth it.
The drawback:
The internal memory of this unit is listed at 1 GB. Due to this limitation, there are only about 900,000 POIs and no Canada maps. However, it does come with expandle memory (SD) and you can purchase a card to add your own custom POIs and maps.
Highly Recommended to the new GPS consumer, especially if your the consumer only comparing TomTom Vs Garmin.
