Pretty good April 5, 2008 I had an older mio and after trying those new navigon gps's i decided to go back to mio. Yeah they have a rep for being lower quality than most gps's but i really like the interface and the speed camera feature. Eventhough this one doesn't have as many poi's it still finds things okay. I used it in san francisco and it always had the poi i wanted. I realize it's a big city but it's still useful. Text to speech is nice but can only be used with one voice.
Great if you want to drive completely the wrong way..... April 3, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this as a Christmas gift, and I had high hopes for it as I do alot of traveling in-state. It honestly depends on its mood whether I will get to the correct destination or not. I can be on the same road as my intended stop, and it will keep shouting to take turns, turn back, etc, even when I reach the destination. Other times it totally wants me to go in the opposite direction (i.e. west rather than east, although the destination is east.) Also, it is telling you to take turns and is naming roads that are over a mile ahead of where you currently are. One time I typed in a place in the next city (had the state correct, double checked it) and it actually decided to try and take me into the next state!!! SCARY. Also, the manual is on a disc and is completely awful. Hate this GPS!!!!!!!
Does all you could ask April 2, 2008 The Mio 230 GPS does everything it's advertised to do. For the price, it's hard to imagine a better performing GPS. When I'm planning to use the Mio, I try to set it up before I get in the car to eliminate the hazard of programming on the go, or the feeling this is taking too long. One funny thing is the vocabulary. When driving recently in LA, I was to take the "La Brea" exit. The Mio said exit at "Louisiana Bree," apparently interpreting "La" as the abbreviation for "Louisiana."
Review March 31, 2008 The price for this product with the text-to-speech capability is unbeatable. If you're looking for a simple GPS with just that feature, I highly recommend this item. It is a little tricky to figure out but as long as you're willing to learn on your own rather than read through a manual then you'll be fine. Unfortunately it can only be charged in the car but I simply charge it while using it. Not as if I'm using it anywhere outside of a car anyway.
Good text-to-speech, bad POI. March 31, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
NO WAL-MARTS inthe POI-list! Do not buy this GPS if points of interest are important to you. Buy it if you want text-to-speech functionality and want customizability at a low price.
