1 out of 5 stars Lack of Customer Support   December 29, 2007

If you are looking for a product that is backed by (at least sort of) customer support, the Navigon is not for you.
The navigator that I own is not functional due to software related fatal errors. Neither reboot nor device reset helps. So does their customer support. I did not get any reply on my on-line request. When I called to customer rep over the phone, I was promised to be called back by engineers. Guess what?... I did not get any call from them.
So if you are experiencing any problem with the product and still can return it to the vendor, please do so. Dealing with the "customer support" may drag you past the merchandise return deadline, as happened in my case.

Also, if you are looking for a GPS navigator with up-to-date maps, the Navigon 2100 is not for you either. It shows businesses that were closed couple years ago and does not see some legitimate left turn point in my neigborhood promting driver to make U-turns a mile or so ahead.
********
(January 11th update)
Now it's almost a month since I reported a problem. The customer support representative told me that the engineering department is still working on the troubleshooting. That means that they either have not support engineers or they overwhelmed with the defective product service requests.

When I was asking about service time estimation, product exchange or money return options, I got nothing in reply but insults.

2 out of 5 stars I would stay away on Navigon 2100   December 28, 2007

The only thing good about this unit is text to speech, but the voice is sooo distorted. The unit is sooo slow. It does not tell you when you miss your turn and that is very very bad. Some highways, if you missed your turn, it will take you another 15 miles to go back. If it told you that you missed your turn, then you can just back it up slowly and turn, rather than silently routes you additional 30 miles roundtrip to get back to your destination. There are many good price gps out there that does not have text to speech, but it works ways better this this crap navigon 2100, such as Mio. Think about it, text to speech is not really needed when driving at night. You just can't look for street name signs when driving. It is good to have, but not have to have it. Just tell me exactly when to turn and that is what I need.

4 out of 5 stars Good Value for Money   December 28, 2007
If you don't need all the bells and whistles (blue tooth phone, MP3, etc.)this little unit is great. Only complaint is the smallish screen, but ya git what ya pays for.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent for the Price   December 25, 2007

I bought this GPS on the blackfriday sale and have used for couple of vacations. This is my first own GPS and I have used couple of GPS's earlier(Tom Tom,Garmin etc). The reality view is very helpful in complicated intersections and I was surprised when it started showing in Turnpike and Highways intersections of Florida during one of my trip. The accuracy is very great, as most of the times it gives directions starting from a mile, .5 mile and .1 mile and some times just before the exit and turn.
The re-calculation is pretty fast(compared to the similar lower priced GPS's). It is little difficult to punch in the address, but if you use a stylus or the tip of a pencil, it will do the job.
Regarding the POI's as some of the reviewers said it will not list out the retailers. But again on vacations how much you will use it compared to restuarants, hotels, tourist attractions etc.

Overall I am very much satisfied with the price I paid my ROI is made. I am enjoying the bonus on the equipment now. I would recommend buying these product under $150( above that it may not be worth).

Part-II
This is in continuation with my earlier review. I have used navigon for couple more trips and it never let me down in any time. With the latest updates, I think it is in par with any high cost GPS's(except bluetooth, photo view and MP3). Real traffic show the "REAL" re-routing when ever required and had experienced in one of my recent trips where there was alternative routes taken. This is highly recommended for people who are looking for a GPS just for navigation and under $150. I cannot comment on the customer service as till now, I don't have an opportunity to call them(it is a compliment to the product). When I bought this price was the factor, but now i am really satisfied with the features also.It captures the satellite signals less than a minute and the hibernate mode does not loose any power even if it is left for weeks together.

2 out of 5 stars Buyer beware, this unit has a very limited number of POIs   December 25, 2007

If you are new to GPS, you will probably not immediately notice this, but the Navigon 2100 has a limited number of POIs (points of interest)loaded on the SD card provided with the unit. Don't get me wrong, it does have plenty of restaurants, gas stations, hotels, but almost no "shopping" POIs, for example retail outlets like Radio Shack, Sears, Best Buy, Nordstrom, Supercuts, etc. You will definitely notice it if you have owned a Garmin unit (like I did). If your lifestyle doesn't need shopping POIs, congratulations to you, but it defintely cramps my GPS outings.

Customer service acknowledges that there are fewer shopping POIs,(they claim they had limited space on the SD card) and told me an update is coming in Jan 2008, and most likely will cost extra.

Anyways, I really like the unit for most of the reasons that others here have mentioned, especially the traffic accessory (it came free with my unit). I hope that Navigon releases a larger database soon...
