4 out of 5 stars Good Value for Money   December 28, 2007
If you don't need all the bells and whistles (blue tooth phone, MP3, etc.)this little unit is great. Only complaint is the smallish screen, but ya git what ya pays for.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent for the Price   December 25, 2007

I bought this GPS on the blackfriday sale and have used for couple of vacations. This is my first own GPS and I have used couple of GPS's earlier(Tom Tom,Garmin etc). The reality view is very helpful in complicated intersections and I was surprised when it started showing in Turnpike and Highways intersections of Florida during one of my trip. The accuracy is very great, as most of the times it gives directions starting from a mile, .5 mile and .1 mile and some times just before the exit and turn.
The re-calculation is pretty fast(compared to the similar lower priced GPS's). It is little difficult to punch in the address, but if you use a stylus or the tip of a pencil, it will do the job.
Regarding the POI's as some of the reviewers said it will not list out the retailers. But again on vacations how much you will use it compared to restuarants, hotels, tourist attractions etc.

Overall I am very much satisfied with the price I paid my ROI is made. I am enjoying the bonus on the equipment now. I would recommend buying these product under $150( above that it may not be worth).

Part-II
This is in continuation with my earlier review. I have used navigon for couple more trips and it never let me down in any time. With the latest updates, I think it is in par with any high cost GPS's(except bluetooth, photo view and MP3). Real traffic show the "REAL" re-routing when ever required and had experienced in one of my recent trips where there was alternative routes taken. This is highly recommended for people who are looking for a GPS just for navigation and under $150. I cannot comment on the customer service as till now, I don't have an opportunity to call them(it is a compliment to the product). When I bought this price was the factor, but now i am really satisfied with the features also.It captures the satellite signals less than a minute and the hibernate mode does not loose any power even if it is left for weeks together.

2 out of 5 stars Buyer beware, this unit has a very limited number of POIs   December 25, 2007

If you are new to GPS, you will probably not immediately notice this, but the Navigon 2100 has a limited number of POIs (points of interest)loaded on the SD card provided with the unit. Don't get me wrong, it does have plenty of restaurants, gas stations, hotels, but almost no "shopping" POIs, for example retail outlets like Radio Shack, Sears, Best Buy, Nordstrom, Supercuts, etc. You will definitely notice it if you have owned a Garmin unit (like I did). If your lifestyle doesn't need shopping POIs, congratulations to you, but it defintely cramps my GPS outings.

Customer service acknowledges that there are fewer shopping POIs,(they claim they had limited space on the SD card) and told me an update is coming in Jan 2008, and most likely will cost extra.

Anyways, I really like the unit for most of the reasons that others here have mentioned, especially the traffic accessory (it came free with my unit). I hope that Navigon releases a larger database soon...

3 out of 5 stars Good but not great   December 24, 2007
The Navigon when I first got it was awesome. I'm finding difficulty reading the small screen and words from a distance. The text to speech eature helps a litte. A little more complicated to operate than I thought and the real time traffic isn't working for some reason. The Graphics are great the pop ups at complicated intersections are clear. The on screen input for addresses are really designed for a stylus which should be included and attached to the Navigon. I haven't noticed if the sound gets louder whith more noise in the car (one of the supposed features). The directions are clear and accurate and recalculating the directions when one is missed is faster than I've ever seen. The unit could not figure out that I was on a service road to a main intersection which could be a problem. The power cord attaches from the bottom instead of the side which is cumbersome. All in all a fairly good unit and will be worth the money once I figure out why I haven't got real time traffic.

5 out of 5 stars Another 5 Star   December 20, 2007
I have had my Navigon 2100 for nearly one month. Now, I think I shoud say something.

What makes it so cool?
3D "Reality View". This is Very helpful for me. When I drive in high way, My GPS make it very clear that which lane is the right one for me in advance, thus to avoid entering or getting off the wrong way.

How about its speed?
some people said it is very slow when we input text. Yes, it is true. But it is not that serious, it is not a PDA or a laptop, we do not always need to edit text, generally we most likely to type the destination address, it will not take us more than one minute. My opion about the speed of a GPS is how quick it can catch the satellite signals, and how fast it can refresh the map when we drive. If we evaluate the speed by this way, what I can only say is that It is really fast, yes, so fast.

Any drawback?
Screen is a bit small for finger entry.
My solution. I found a pencil which has a rubber head. I use this pencil as the input device. It costs me one quarter.

There are many pros and cons for this device as other users have said. But there are no perfect GPSs in the world that can satisfy every one. A 4 star may be appropriate for this Navigon 2100 GPS. But it satisfied me, I like it, I would like to give it 5 star.
