Research before buy November 30, 2007 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this GPS a week ago for 99 bucks black friday sale. I am going to return it for the following reasons. The screen will not mount anywhere except to the Middle of my window on the 2 SUVs I tried to use, due to the powercord hanging out the bottom, therefore blocking that point of view. My fingers must be too large because its difficult for me to use menu options to select everything. This device lacks Points of Interest which seem to not be upgradable, uploadable. Map updates on my device were old, didnt have roads right in my area and were not upgradable until January '08.
--I own a Garmin 320c that I bought last year. I think Garmin is much better than Navigon in all ways except for picture & details of navigation. Thats what pulled me into buying the Navigon. It looked so sleek.
Navigon 2100 November 30, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I too got my Navigon 2100 from Staples for $179.00. It looks nice and I really liked the speed warnings. You can set what speed limit to warn you at and it appeared that it knows what the right speed limits are. I work in the transportation industry. I spend a lot of time traveling and I am in charge of routing for the company I work for. We use GPS's a lot. We use primarly Garmin products. I have been a big fan of Garmin for years. I get to try out just about every GPS brand that comes out. They are similar. It looks like Navigon wanted to give the GPS a new look. The intersection screens are neat to look at, but very over rated. It is basically a generic image with lines on what lane(s) you should be in. Unfortunately many times the lines are off the side and you get the wrong idea of where to be. Most of the directions the Navigon gave took me out of the way. I experienced the same thing as the other reviewer where it wants you to cut through areas to get where you are going. I live right off the exit of the interstate. The Navigon told me to take the next exit past mine and to cut back over to my neighborhood. I think Navigon will have a really nice product for the price once they clean up the routing part of the software. With TomTom lowering their price on the TomTom One v3 you
I like it November 29, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Never had a GPS. I want a GPS to get me where I want to go. This does that. The voice message is clear and I like the way it tells you the name of the road to turn on. The reality view that it automatically switches to show what lane you should be in is a great feature. I live in the Phoenix area and it warns me of traffic slowdowns or accidents. That is a bonus feature that was included at no extra charge. Another thing that is nice that when your driving there are constantly points of interest displayed on the screen that you are driving by like motels or restaurants, gas stations etc. Some reviews say its sluggish and it is. Sluggish means when your typing in a new address you can't type to fast but if you watch what your typing you won't have a problem. My wife doesn't have to warn me now about driving to fast because the GPS says CAUTION when I go 10mph over the posted limit. You can change that to 5, 10 or 15 or turn it off. If you want a GPS and don't want to spend a lot and get some cool extras then I don't see how you can go wrong on this one. I like it.
A decent product - value depends on the price paid November 29, 2007 I purchased this on Black Friday for about a hundred dollars w/ free lifetime traffic. I phenomenal deal!
Overall, I am impressed with the unit for an entry level.
Pros: Sharp looking screen, Lots of POIs (more than Amazon lists), TTS, decent with keeping up, has many features that the mid-range models of Garmin/TomTom/Mio have.
Cons: Smaller touch boxes (harder to do while driving), is a bit slower than TomTom and Garmin but not enough of a difference.
Love the 7100, but the 2100 is where its at.... November 29, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Have the navigon 7100, but bought the navigon 2100 on black friday for 99.00 I have to say the touchscreen is more sensitive then the 7100,,, I also got FREE traffic with the unit love the small size and thought i would miss the larger screen, not at all...........I am selling the 7100 and keeping the 2100.....the both are awesome but prefer the smaller size....
