Great GPS May 30, 2008 I have been using the TomTom One XL-S for the past month. It was simple to use right out of the box. Just plug it in and follow the prompts. I have used it in several parts of the country in addition to my home town. I have found it to be extremly accurate as to its location and also in finding a location and giving accurate directions to it. The only issue I have with it is that my work address is not in the system even though it is in a huge complex that has been there over eight years! In fact TomTom has no numerical address for this major street. My friend also has a TomTom One 3rd and it also is missing the numerical addresses for this street.
Over all I am happy with this product and felt it was a good value for the money and would buy it again.
Can't get lost May 27, 2008 Had the entry level Tomtom and decided to keep it in the family. Large screen makes my drive easier. Still need to determine how good the back up is with the website but I would recommend this product based on my experience with the two I have had. Make sure you get the "S" because the xl does not have a street name assistant unless it is the "S" version.
TomTom XL-S May 27, 2008 Overall was extremely pleased with the product until I went to Guam for vacation. Since TomTom advertises service over there and my in-laws live there it was a major factor over the other major brands that do not offer service in Guam. The GPS was way off even on the major road there(Marine Corp drive)showing me in the water or if on the road the intersections were out of sync. But don't let this one one fault steer you away, stateside the TomTom is awesome, the online service is great and still deserves 5 full stars. They just need to get more reliable service in Guam, to truly be able to advertise it as a feature.
Strange for address on the left side of the street. May 23, 2008 I have a XLS that I have had for a couple of weeks. I have tried all different brands. I have a Magellan 760 that I am using as a reference. I like the itineraries and the waypoints. I also like that it shows the direction of the next turn and what distance. What I don't like is how it routes to locations on the left side of the street. For example, if I am routing down 1 street and the address is on the left side of a major street. It will have me take a different street, then go around so I make a right turn into the address. I have tried this to several different locations. In every single case it basically has me go around the block so I an make a right turn into the address. This does not happen if the address is on the right side of a major street. Sometimes it will take me a couple blocks out of the way, just to avoid turning left. I even looked at the Tom Tom 930. Which is brand new. It still does it. Must be a British thing.
Good GPS May 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just got this. It is a easy to use GPS and is okay for the price, BUT don't be fooled. To update your maps is NOT FREE! You can get corrected maps that have been corrected by other Tom Tom users, but to get the new updated maps can cost! Just to get the newest map of the USA is 79.95 on the Tom Tom site. For this alone I would return it, but I am leaving on a cross country trip in days!
