4 out of 5 stars TomTom One XL-S   February 24, 2008

I bought this unit for my roadster. I want to wander the backroads of Tennessee and North Carolina. Right away, I found it works far better than the built-in Navigation system in my other car. First, the roads are up to date and second, the units gives directions on even minor roads- and I mean the smallest, almost one lane roads. The built-in car unit will give directions only on major roads and has left me hanging up to 6 miles from my actual destination. But the TomTom is spot on. Our neighborhood street is shown correctly on the TomTom which suprised me because it is wrong on all the comupter maps that I have seen. The voice is loud and clear too. All this for about the price of an updated map DVD for my other car! Forget that.
The PC software works well and I like the options that allow me to download different start up screens and even voices. But the TomTom Home software takes a good while to initalize when first plugging the TomTom into the computer via the USB cord.
I was not able to pair my Blackberry/Wireless service to the TomTom in order to take advantage of the Plus services. That's the only reason for 4 stars instead of 5.

4 out of 5 stars What happened to the S   February 20, 2008

This product is really great, but I bought the XL S version and have yet to get the S part working. It seems you need a sim card to add this feature, which I did, and it still won't work because it doesn't recognize the card. Web-site info is pitiful. There is not enough memory on the device to handle the voice that reads street names..... Otherwise, it's a great little device. i wouldn't waste the money for the XL S version and just get the XL.

It's really worthless spending that much huge amount for that old data, never tell street names and distance.
