Gets me where I need to go February 14, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
WOW! I mean this thing is GREAT! My Husband picked me up one and it is SOOO DAMN GREAT! It is super easy to use and it won't LET ME get lost. I just find it absolutely fantastic in every persepctive. I would highly recommend it to anyone. It's PERFECT!! I never lose a signal I can see the screen super clearly and I can understand the talking perfectly. This is very cool. If I can use it easily, anyone can. Go for it.
I love it!!! Awesome! Why did I live without it for so long?!!! February 13, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I love my Tom-Tom!!! I get lost easily, so the Tom Tom is a huge help. Sometimes it gives me quicker routes for places I drive to all the time! Sometimes it tells me to take turns that I don't think are right, so I ignore them, and it resets a route to get to my destination. So using the Tom Tom with mapquest or google/yahoo, etc. directions works best. I have downloaded fun voices from navtones to go with it, which my family and I enjoy.
SUPER!!! February 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This GPS does everything accurately. When I turn it on or come out of a building I usually have satelite aquisition within 30 seconds. Sometimes I'll have it take me to someplace I already know how to get to to see if it would take me the same way. Sometimes it's not always the shortest or best route, but other times it finds me a better and shorter way than I'm used to going, so it probably balances out. The only complaint I have is with the dash mount which I think is kind of flimsy. I bought this to replace a Magellan 4300 which I was very unhappy with. When I turned on the Magellan at the store and directed it to take me home, it took me in the right direction for several miles, than had me turn right instead of left, and told me I was home when I was about 1/2 mile from home and on a bridge right over a river. Sometimes I would drive past an address without being told I had arrived and would only get that announcement when I would back up. It had a really good dash mount though.
GREAT GPS!! February 12, 2008 I have never had a GPS Navigation System before. As a matter of fact, I don't think I have ever been in a car with one (built-in or portable). But, since my birthday was coming up and I could not think of anything I needed, I told my wife she could buy me this new toy. I did the research and decided the TOMTOM ONE XL-S was the best one for the price (I paid $299 with no shipping or sales tax). As most people indicate, it worked right out of the box. The software updates were easy to install through the TOMTOM "Home" web site. It is very easy to figure out on your own, but you can also print out the 69 page manual from the web site. I have only had it a few days, but my new toy seems to work great.
I did know I would have a problem with my windshield being too far away from me to reach the TOMTOM, so I also purchased the Bracketron beanbag dash mount. It works great. It does not move and it places the TOMTOM within easy reach. Also, you can just pick up the dash mount, with the TOMTOM attached, to move it all out of view (like in a parking lot) or move it to another vehicle.
TomTom One XL-S makes navigating easier than ever February 9, 2008 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
The TomTom One XL-S turned out to be everything the advertisements claimed it would be. It is so easy to use. There was no softwear to load from a CD. Initially you just have to connect the navigator to your computers USB port, turn it on, and all necessary software is automatically downloaded and the setup starts, prompting you to answer a few basic, one-time only questions. Really, I was done in minutes and I could then program the GPS to find my first destination. I have only two gripes. One is the windshield holder that came with the TomTom was much too short. If I had used that holder I would never have been able to reach the navigator from my driver's seat position. I found that there is a longer one availble from TomTom which I purchased and which places the navigator much closer to my position making it much safer to reach and to see. The other quibble is that the built-in maps don't include National Wildlife Refuges. As a bird watcher, I really miss having that information available. But that drawback means it just takes a bit longer to program a destination to one of those refuges. All in all, I am most satified with my purchase.
