This item is great - BUT - I almost returned it because I could not get it to announce the names of streets as advertised. Very Poor instructions Re this important feature. You must use the computer generated voice if you want it to name the streets. After you think about it, how could an actor name every street in the US and Canada. It makes sense. The instructions in the set up are just very poor.

Got this as a gift for my dad. It's great cus it's ready to go out of the box, has an (optional) tutorial when you first turn it on. I like the web-based map updating and the fact that it is portable to whatever car you plan to use and that you could take it overseas and use it there.

The Tomtom is great. We used it for a trip to a new location in Spring Hill, TN, and it was very helpful. I recommend it.

I had never used a GPS prior to this purchase. It works great. Sometimes when you turn it on, it takes almost 2 minutes to find your current location. :(
The features are easy to use. One feature I find helpful is to find a location by intersection. It will list all of the roads that intersect with the road that you enter. This is great when you can't remember one of the street names but know it when you see it. Spoken street names is also helpful when there are several streets close together. It is a reassurance that you are turning at the right point.
