Excellent GPS for the dosh June 16, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Simply a neat device, works very well. This is my first GPS and I bought it for a long family road trip during summer vacation and it earned its keep within the first couple of days. Downloaded a 'custom' voice ("Mullet Man") and he had me smiling, if not actually laughing out loud, throughout our voyage. The only problem is with mounting ... there's no place on our minivan's windshield that I could mount this device and have it reachable and visible to both the driver and navigator (front seat passenger), so we often had to set it on the storage bin between the front seats which resulted in it getting bounced around a bit.
Excellent Choice! June 14, 2008 I am really happy we purchased this product. We bought it right before we went on a cross-country road trip, and we would not have made it without our TomTom! It was great at finding gas, food, entertainment, parking, as well as all of our hotels. It made a couple mistakes, usually when the signal was poor, but it always corrected itself quickly and we were able to find our way. The screen size is larger than most this price, and it makes a big difference, it is much easier to see where were are in relation to other things and using the touchscreen is more convenient. By plugging it into a laptop with an internet connection, I was able to receive map corrections made by other users, so it continues to improve itself. I will never go on another trip without it!
A successful product line continue June 14, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this product for my wife. I've been sold on the Tom Tom line since the early models. As an owner of the Tom Tom 300 model, I didn't want to experiment with other manufacturers. The One XL-S is an extension of the 300 model with some added functionality like announcing the street name as part of the navigation. The models are great ...long battery life, maps are as accurate as can be considering road construction is perpetual, and the display is clear even in the sun. The most alluring feature is the menu system ...very easily navigated. The only negative is the window mount on the One. The 300 came with a suction cup and lever design. The One relies entirely on the suction cup. It works, you just have to push a little harder than I was accustomed to pushing. Be careful of which vendor you select. I order two units. They shipped one and invoiced for two. It took 3 days of escalating telephone calls to correct the error which should have been easily correct. The unit weight, shipping weight and number of packages was simple enough to calculate that there was a shipping mistake, but that didn't help in this situation.
TOM TOM weak at pinpointing destination June 9, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I've had two Magellan GPS units that I've passed on to my children and when those units say you've reached your destination they were right on the mark. This TOM TOM XL-S can be easily 800' t0 1000' away from final destination when it announces that you are there. It will be the last TOM TOM GPS that I'll ever purchase.

unit does every thing it says it will. I was missing a users guide in the box and had to down load it from the internet
