Great GPS August 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love having a GPS; this one is a really good GPS for the money. I like: 1) It doesn't go crazy when you deviate from the route - it just recalculates. 2) Choice of voices, even without going online 3) Lots of points of interest 4) Easy to use 5) On major roads, it not only displays your speed, but also the speed limit, highlights red when you're 4+ miles over the limit, and displays your ETA - recalculating all the time. I'm not crazy about: 1) It doesn't speak road names (not worth extra $ for this feature, though, for what I need) 2) It seems to do some strange routing at times.
Overall, if you need a basic inexpensive GPS, this is it.
2D Navigation Still Superior August 7, 2008 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
I personally do not own one of these navigation devices. However I do use one at work (company provided). These things are in no way accurate at all. When I need to make a turn somewhere, the TomTom will tell me to turn after I passed the street or business I was supposed to turn on. Yeah, it will redirect you afterwords. I still have better luck with reading roadmaps and visually searching for an address.
Volume is a Problem August 3, 2008 I have no complaints with this product other than its volume. Even with the volume turned up to its highest, my husband and I both struggle to hear the directions and we are not hearing impaired. I borrowed another TomTom model from a friend for comparison and it did not have this issue. It has a different type of speaker and was very easy to hear. For me, this is a huge issue because I am unable to negotiate unfamiliar streets, particularly when traffic is heavy and/or fast moving, while looking at the TomTom screen. I rely on the auditory directions. When I purchased my TomTom One I did not realize that the volume was an issue. Had I known this, I would have selected another model.
Dissapointed July 25, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I recently bought it through Amazon/Crutchfield but was dissapointed! It did not have text to voice as I thought it would. It performed inferior to my Magellan Maestro which was cheaper, although it did have some features such as speed limit (albeit, not always accurate limits) that the Magellan didn't have. The screen was not as bright either and because of the lack of text to speech, I would not recommend it.
I was impressed both by Crutchfield's return policy. No S/H both ways! Can't beat that! I've been told my money has been refunded to my credit card. Thank you Amazon! I'll definitely with you again
TOMTOM July 24, 2008 This product is amazing for the price -- works very well except for the last time , a week ago both Tom Tom as well as the GPS in my rental car directed me through [what they believed as the fastest route , though I have travelled in this city before and knew the roads well!!!!!] and finally I ended up in a roadblock where it was not easy to even turn around, finally I found that the road was blocked only a week before my trip.
Otherwise I love this gadget-- no more print outs ,guess work , stop to check the maps or ask around. The voice command is great-- wakes you up [ if you happen to fall asleep behind the wheel]love it--particularly the Cleetus --cracks me up
