NOT FOR NEW IPOD VIDEO (CLASSIC) November 13, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is not for the New Ipod Video. You need APPLE's Composite Cable set. It comes with a power adapter for $49.99. You can not use cheaper Composite Cables by others on new iPod Videos (CLASSIC). APPLE has a chip in theirs. ONLY THEIRS WORKS! DO NOT get the COMPONENT CABLES if you do not have a HD-TV. Not such a good signal, if it works. APPLE'S COMPOSITE CABLE SET is the safest option. You DO NOT NEED THE DOCK! That Set cost $100.00 and dock isn't needed. An Apple Sales person will try and sell you the DOCK!
Shockingly Poor Design January 29, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am an iPod fan. Love my video iPod and use it all the time both professionally and personally. Naturally, I wanted the best video connection cable and assumed that Apple would provide it. I thought the Apple cable was way overpriced compared with the same corresponding product in any electronics shop, but, hey, name and great design, right? Wrong! The Apple iPod AV cable LOOKS great, sleek and seemingly sturdy. Shockingly, it is both un-ergonomic (doesn't correspond to human finger grip)and shoddy (breaks easily). My first inkling that something was wrong was that it was always so difficult to pull the audio and video connectors off the monitor/TV plugs. They grip very tightly onto the plugs but you, your hand, can't get a grip on the absolutely smooth sides of the connections. Very quickly, within two weeks of use, the plastic sheaths atop the connectors chipped and pulled away from the cord, meaning that you had no choice but to tug directly on the cord to get the connectors off the plugs. There was no other way to get them off. Ever pulled a vacuum cleaner cord out of the wall by the cord from the socket and had that "well, I did it this time but I shouldn't do it too often" feeling? Same here. Always felt weird. So, of course, yesterday the video connector simply broke off while attached to the plug. The bad design and shoddy workmanship forces the consumer to break the product. (Meanwhile, my dinky little $9.95 PacRimtech retractable audio-AV cable does the job superbly, is easy to grip, and will clearly last for years. Plus, did I say that its retractable?)
Apple, we love ya but don't put out any more poorly designed peripheral products. If you gonna stay The Man, you got to hit the ball out of the park every time. Steer clear of this one, folks. It's a pretty but clearly not well conceived or tested product.
