 Absolute HORRIBLE waste of time (and money) October 1, 2008

I've been told for months that NeatReceipts update ($20 cost to existing customers for version 3.0) would have better exporting to Quicken. Specifically I'm disappointed that MEMO data (you know - that line that has been on checks for 100 years now) does not get included in exported data. After finding that was not true, I called again and was told that the newest version 4.0 (another $30 --am I an idiot or what--) would definitely include complete data export that I need (helpful for IRS audits--the last 3 years now--God help me). 4.0 ALSO DOES NOT do what they claim. Unfortunately I really need that MEMO info, which is why I bother to put it in the field.
NR designers are not aware that people might want to use the most basic of information and they are the ones who decide what information will be exported for Quicken. Oh, and they not only promise to include basic changes in future updates (and charge for them)--and then fail to do so-- they are HORRIBLE at even putting out updates.
PLEASE DO NOT BOTHER! I've spent $200 on the scanner/software and $50 more on updates... and the thing is costing me time!
AWFUL online support. LiveChat support is very uninformed and not helpful and phone support times are limited to usual work hours (you know, when I am WORKING).
There is just nothing useful, helpful or convenient about this. Too bad because the general idea is great and the technology is out there (somewhere - not in NeatReceipts, however). Sorry to disappoint!

Neat Receipts is a super tool for scanning receipts into my computer and then downloading to Quicken. It makes my online submission of travel reimbursement for work so much easier now (no more faxing!). I also use it for scanning scrapbook documents, tax letters, and other items that used to take up space in my file cabinet. I greatly recommend it.

I love that I can scan my receipts then recycle the paper knowing that if I need to print a copy of a receipt, I can! But what I love most is that when I run out to my kids' activities, I can take my laptop along and work on Quicken using the receipts on the computer to categorize the items...without a stack of papers!!! Oh, and I love that I can attach the receipt image to the transaction in Quicken, so I can find the receipt quickly if needed!
Bad Product, Bad Service September 24, 2008
Purchased this product for the office book keeper's PC. Software would not install on the PC which is a basic XP Pro box. Wasted hours of my time uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail. Called in my outside IT support guys to look at it and they wasted three hours on it to no avail. Tried installing on completely different PC and had same problems. We at least came to the conclusion that the problem has something to do with MS SQL not installing properly (MS SQL is installed with Neat receipts and their database won't run without it). Called Neat Receipts support and was told they won't/can't offer support with MS SQL because it's not their software. Unbelievable! So I am stuck with a $150 paperweight! Avoid Neat Receipts at all costs. Get a Fujitsu Scansnap if you want hassle free receipt scanning.

NeatReceipts Professional Mobile Receipt and Document Scanner and Software Combination Version 3.0Two years ago while on a flight I was thumbing through a magazine and saw NeatReceipts. The more I read about it I knew it was just what I needed to scan in my contracts, save as a PDF file and then email them to my clients. I'm a real estate agent and this is perfect to use in my business. After returning home I searched the internet and found it for a reasonable price.
Installation was easy. I followed the directions and it was up and ready in just a few minutes. I couldn't wait to try it.. Yes, it worked!!
My husband is self-employed and I get to keep records of all his stuff. It was a pain until I got NeatReceipts and now I don't have to worry about keeping up with all those receipts, I just scan them into the right category and then I can pull them up any time I want to. At the end of the year I printed all the reports and took them to our CPA. It has saved me a lot of time. When an update comes out I install it and it just keeps getting better. Yes, once in a while it will hang up but that is miner compared to what it has done for my life.
