 Great printer, easy set up November 11, 2008
I bought this printer to be more economical in my printing for newsletter creations. The printer was delivered and I had it unboxed and printing in less than 30 minutes! After reading some of the reviews about set up I was leery about that aspect so I took the time to read all the directions. After doing that, set up was a piece of cake! Of course I am running on a Mac so that in itself makes it easier! I like it so much I would like to purchase one for our office.
High toner costs November 1, 2008
This printer is great (connected via usb to my iMac, shared via bonjour via linksys wireless to my macbook).
Only drawback, as with all printers, is the cost of refill printer cartridges. The Brother-branded high yield toner cartridges are under $50, which is great, until you see that they only produce 2,500 pages. Other manufacturers' printers have much more expensive cartridges, but they may print around 6,000 pages. So, Brother is kinda trying to trick us.
But the printer produces very nice prints.

I bought an Brother HL-2170w because my brother, who owns his own advertising/ graphic arts studio, had one personally and regarded it highly. I hooked it up but found I needed help from Brother to complete the installation. I have a network and it was way too complicated for their meager instructions to cover. They were very professional, courteous and quick. I was up and running in no time! I am using it wireless, so all my computers can print through it. I have printed enough that I probably will need to think about a replacement cartridge soon; I checked them out prior to purchasing and they were very reasonable. I love this printer. This has to be the greatest printer for the money in the world. (don't tell Brother, they will probably up the price!)

It arrived quickly and in good shape. Previous reviews about the product led me to see that installation would be somewhat counter-intuitive. It was, but once hooked up, the printer is working flawlessly from both my wife's mac and my PC.
