4 out of 5 stars A great basic laser printer   October 9, 2008
The Brother HL-2170w is a fantastic little printer. Print quality and speed are good; much higher than low-end printers from even just a few years back. I'm also impressed with the relatively low paper curl from such a small printer.

I took one star off for the Mac OS X wireless setup being trickier than necessary, as other reviewers have commented upon. However, once setup is complete, the printer just works. We've run a few varieties of specialty media such as labels through it, and those work great as well.

This printer is a fantastic combination of quality, price, and convenience for home or small office use.

1 out of 5 stars Only worked for 8 months!   October 8, 2008
This printer did a great job for 8 months then the other day our pages started coming out solid black. Just paid a printer repair guy $65 to tell us that it is completely shot all to heck inside and that it will cost far more to repair than what we paid for it. So there you have it. If you're looking for a cheap and very temporary good little printer this is it. If you want a printer that will last a while, look elsewhere and probably expect to pay more because you won't find it with this one.

3 out of 5 stars Sturdy and Noisy   October 6, 2008
So far this thing works like a charm. The only problem is the noise. Not when it's printing, I expect a racket then, but at random it starts piping up enough to disturb the peace. For example, while watching a movie (in another room), while peacefully surfing the web, etc. It's very annoying, because you don't know when to expect it... and I'm not that easily annoyed. So I pretty much have decided that I'm going to turn it off except when I need to print. Otherwise, good value.

4 out of 5 stars shipping GREAT & product VERY NICE value!   October 6, 2008
I have found that, so far, this printer does an excellent job for a great price! Amazon did a superb job start to finish!

2 out of 5 stars Wireless - - NOT   October 5, 2008

Don't count on wireless with this product. It will get on the network OK, but you might find that it's "offline" with no hope of ever printing wireless. You could spend two or three hours on a weekend afternoon confirming this, or take advice from me and the other reviewers who say so. Don't count on any useful advice from the Brother websites either. Just use the cable.
