| Customer Reviews:
Compact & inexpensive color printer November 16, 2008 Bought this to replace a Dell 810 all-in-one printer that malfunctioned after less than two years. I would have given the product 5 stars except that the installation instructions for Windows XP are unclear and we encountered problems because we used the CD that came with the unit (CD was for Vista--that little devil of an operating system). Once we figured out that the CD was not necessary for Windows XP all went well. We had excellent technical support from HP in helping us resolve the initial problem. Bought this HP as the third desk side printer in our office when color printing is wanted. We have three of them now and so far, so good.
Product good -- service, not-so-good October 30, 2008 Printer works just fine, once finally installed. I had problems with the installation, so called HP Tech Support and was astonished to learn that "they no longer offer free tech support" for this item -- this despite the fact that it was just one day out of the box. Finally was able to get free tech support, but had to email them a copy of the Amazon invoice, and also fax them the same document (no reason given for this seemingly needless duplication.) Faxing them a copy was not very easy, when one does not have either a fax machine or a functioning printer. Then had to wait 48 hours after sending this info, before they would give tech support. Apparently the reason for all this is that this is an "older model" printer (obsolete?) -- a fact not disclosed prior to purchase. Maybe that was the reason for the discounted price, but it was not disclosed in any of the product info prior to purchase. All this made my selection of "two-day shipping" completely irrelevant -- though Amazon did refund 50% of the charge when I complained. Again -- printer is fine -- hassle is frustrating, to say the least.
baaaaaad product October 24, 2008 HP used to make a good printer. now we have an hp graveyard in our office of four pritners less than 2 years old and each each broke within a few months. two were expensive -- then we switched to the cheap models. the cheap printers last for two years, now it is months. one never worked. getting hp to stand behind it is a problem. now we buy canon. sadly, it is not double sided but at least it runs.
Great Printer for the Price October 14, 2008 I am thrilled with this printer for the price. I had much more expensive printer/copier/fax/scanner but the printing feature never fed the paper correctly and I never used the other features at all. I had a similar HP product at the office that never had a problem so I chose this printer.
HP Deskjet 6940 Miserable October 13, 2008 I'm in college, and I can't print one document without a paper jam. Its very annoying to not only waste ink, but half a packet of paper and precious time trying to print off an assignment. Look elseware for a reliable, high volume printer.
