Ecxellent cooling, but the USB ports don't work November 6, 2008 This stand does an excellent job of cooling my laptop-I have an Acer Aspire 6920-6422-not super demading but it gets pretty hot. This works great with it except for the USB ports-not so great. If you want a device that adds the extra USB-look elsewhere.
Excellent product November 3, 2008 I have a big 17in laptop... Gateway FX model... this product works perfectly for me... cools well... give just the correct angle... adds several USB ports. A great product!
super cool surfing October 29, 2008 I have an older model Dell laptop which sucks on multiple levels, but the heat this thing generates is top on the "why it sucks" list. I had bought a cheaper laptop fan that only moderately cooled, and eventually the plug on the back broke off (my fault).
I procrastinated in ordering a new fan, however my laptop kept powering off because it was overheating. Off to the internet I went (on the desktop) and found this laptop cooler.
It works, brilliantly, and even makes my hand quite cool when I have it on the mouse close to the side of the cooler. It connects to the laptop via either a dc/usb cord or a usb/usb cord. There are 5 total usb ports on the back. The fan speed is adjustable with a dial on the side. The cooler is higher in the back providing a comfortable slant for the laptop.
To see just how well it worked, I ran a graphics intensive game that had previously been the main cause of the overheating and shut down. The other night when the laptop shut down, I felt the bottom of the laptop and it was uncomfortably hot.
Today, however, after running the game for well over 30 minutes, the bottom of the laptop was actually cooler than if it had only been used for internet surfing. The noise of the fans (three of them) is fine for me, as it works so well cooling, I don't mind a minor whirring sound. It's really not an issue. When you use a lot of fans, you expect some sound.
This was a bit pricier than I initially felt comfortable with, but I decided to take a chance, based on the reviews, and thus far I'm quite thrilled with it!
A little noisy but good October 21, 2008 I write simulations that run both cores of my Lenovo Thinkpad T61p at 99-100% and the typical temperatures I get from sensor readings are 89 C. This cooler reduces the temperature by 10-15 C with the fans at high. Plenty of holes for air flow. The pad is suitable for laptops bigger than mine, which has a 15.4" screen. It is bulky but light - folds for transportation. No manuals but doesn't need any. I expected the fans to be silent except for the whoosh from the air flow but that is not the case - the fans do make a little bit of noise. The Lenovo laptops have their processor cores on the far left corner of the laptop body so the laptop cannot be placed in a natural way on the cooler for the air flow to make contact with the hottest spot. But this is more of a design issue with the Thinkpad than with any laptop cooler.
Great Buy! Expensive but worth it. October 1, 2008 You know how you look at the price of something and go...eeek? Ive had other laptop coolers as I online game with mine and it cooks the tabletop if I dont have a cooler hooked up. Other coolers just move air around. This one actually kept the bottom cool to the touch after several hours of gaming. If you are going eek at the price don't worry, your search is over, as this one is under that catagory of get what you buy. Well built and the extra usb ports will come in handy. A wheel on the side helps you adjust the speed of the fan. Have not noticed any noise at highest speed setting, seems quiet.
