3 out of 5 stars works alright, may require a fine touch   August 19, 2008
This switch does what it says, and combines three inputs. I have my hd-dvd player, cable box, and ps3 hooked through this. The price is great because it includes 4 cables. That is probably the best reason to get this. The switch I recived works, but I have to jiggle the main out wire when I am at input three to get it to work, and on one and two I have to jiggle the switch. takes a whole two seconds, not a big deal, but annoying none the less. Still would purchase this again because of the value.

update 10/12/2008: Had this switch now 2 months, and basically input 3 has become useless. The sound plays, but cuts in and out, and I now had to stand holding the cables at certain angles to keep this from cutting out. look elsewhere for more durable switch. Still stand by the purchase though.

4 out of 5 stars switch good, cables not so good   July 30, 2008
I purchased this to prevent me from having to manually change the optical wire from the back of my tv to my 360 because my receiver only has one optical input. the switch works fine. i don't see what people are complaining about, no problems here. i do have a slight grievance against the 4 wires. they are sturdy nice wires with caps and all, except they do not fit well in anything but the switch. they nicely click into the switch but simply wedge into everything else. as long as you can get them to stay in place long enough for you to move whatever they're plugged into back into place, the wires work fine.

overall everything WORKS.

I use the switch to toggle between a Dish receiver and a DVD player (inputs) to a home theater system (output). It worked well for a while, but then the cheap plastic construction resulted in intermittent failures. I took it apart and was surprised how simple it was. Anyway, I found that the output "socket" was no longer solidly fixed in its position so that it would not align consistently with its receiving "plug". I glued it in place with a bit of MarineTex epoxy and all has been well since.

This optical audio switch didn't work for my Dish receiver or my PS3 -- don't waste your time with buying this!

3 out of 5 stars Does Not Work for X-Box 360   May 28, 2008
Great product, except that it doesn't work with the Xbox 360, which is one of the three devices I needed it for. It works fine with my HD Tivo and Blu-Ray player, but 360 is a no-go. I've tried moving the switch over to the 360 before turning the 360 on, but it still won't work. Other than that, it works as advertised.

Update 6/11/08: I have stopped using this unit altogether. At first it seemed fine with my Blu-Ray player, but lately when I switch over to watch a movie, I get a popping sound from the audio. The movie audio comes through, but a random popping sound can be heard. The connections just aren't good with this, and it's completely worthless to me now.

I have a receiver with only one optical in, and three devices that I want 5.1 audio from (HD Tivo, Xbox360, Blu-Ray player). This device seemed like a good workaround, but it's no good.
