 Excellent for star gazing October 24, 2008
We purchased this to use for pointing out stars. It works beautifully, even on the clearest nights. It is easy enough to use that even my 7-year old child can accurately point at a star and ask what the star is, or trace out a constellation that she has learned. The batteries last a surprisingly long time; it's been over a year of regular use (including several sessions of more than an hour continuously), and we haven't changed the batteries once. I also recommend getting the book Find the Constellations by H. A. Rey -- one of the best introductory stargazing manuals around; you & your children will love it.
 Don't use for stargazing September 14, 2008
You will be disappointed if you bought this to use for stargazing. It works fine as a pointer but the beam is too weak to see against the night sky however dark it is.

The pointer is very well built and produces a very bright light, perfect for presentations in bright rooms where other pointers are not bright enough.
