Better than the suction mount July 22, 2006 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
I found out the hard way that the factory-included suction mount isn't very dependable, unless you find the perfect place on the windshield to stick it to. After mounting it onto the windshield and giving it a slight tug, it seemed like it had a pretty solid grip. However, midway through the drive while I was turning, the suction mount along with the C340 just fell off. I understand that the system is pretty heavy, but I don't like expensive technology falling to the ground at random times, so I ended up paying extra for this dashboard mount. Works great. I wish there was an option for including this in the original package, but business is business and Garmin wants my $$$, so I'll have to pay extra.
great product July 20, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a great product. It only slips down my dash when on very bumpy roads. It could also be that my dash is farily steep. 06 chevy truck.
Love this item!!! July 8, 2006 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I had just gotten the Garmin C340 Nav system (with suction cup mount) when I found out that it is illegal to adhere anything to your windshield in California. Also, I leased my car so I didn't want to use the super-stick alternate dash mount it came with. I looked around for a weighted dash mount. When I came across this one, I wasn't sure that it would be sturdy enough to hold the C340... but I was thrilled at the results. The three-pronged "Mickey Mouse ears" are heavy enough to hold the system in place without marking up the finish. My dash top is relatively flat so it works great (however, on curvier dashes it can slide a bit). It's also flexible enough to be tossed in my glove compartment. The "ears" bend right up. This is a great item!
Accident concerns July 6, 2006 6 out of 21 found this review helpful
Um, I don't know if this thought has only crossed my mind, but if you get into an accident, it's assumed that you're moving forward right before you get hit, right? newton's laws of physics state that if there is a sudden directional change, an object will have the tendency to move in the same direction as it was before the directional change. therefore, if a car is moving forwards and suddenly stops, an object that is not secured down is going to continue to move in a forward direction. the unit would most definitely fly and hit the windshield in this case.
the only way it would fly backwards and hit someone in the backseat is if you're driving in reverse at a ridiculous speed and come to a screeching stop all of a sudden. and if you're doing that, your children deserve to get smacked around a little.
goodness gracious. it's basic physics! silly people.
