Garmin Navigator 350 January 16, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This was given as a gift to our children. They found this device exceedingly useful and were glad to have received it. My reason for writing this review was to acknowledge Amazon as being a reliable and trustworthy supplier. We were able to save $160 by calling Amazon and telling them that the price we paid for the GPS was substantially reduced from the time it was purchased. They immediately acknowledged the price decrease and credited our account. It was so simple. My husband and I were thrilled and encouraged us to continue doing business with them.
The Nuvi 350 is an excellent product & I would purchase it again. January 16, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I read extensively about GPS navigators and read many reviews before I made my purchase. The vast majority of the reviews I read about the 350 were very positive and frequently very detailed. I found most of these reviews to be correct. After using the product for nearly a month I have been very impressed. The Nuvi 350 is very easy to use and will usually get you to where you want to go, but as many reviewers have reported, if you are traveling in an area that you know well, you will find that the Nuvi frequently plots a route that is not the best or most efficient way to get to your destination. I think that is all you can expect. On one occasion, it selected a route that would not get me to my destination. I have used it on forest service roads that are for four-wheel drive vehicles only and was amazed that these roads were even listed. These were back roads only shown on detailed topo maps. My wife and I were both able to use the Nuvi 350 directly out of the box with less than 10 minutes spent reading the instructions. The touch screen is easy to use and one can quickly type in the name and the address that one wishes to navigate to. You can simulate driving your selected route on the Nuvi 350 before you actually drive it. That can be a very useful feature. The screen is fairly easy to look at and the voice commands are easy to understand. We had a friend visiting us and we simply typed in the address and my friends was immediately able to drive to the address. He thought it was the greatest thing since popcorn. I was impressed with how quickly it calculates it's current location when you first turn it on. Many times faster than my older Garmin GPS 12 XL. I was also impressed with how easy it is to remove from the holder and take with you. And, it was very easy to use to navigate while walking with it in a strange location. However, I did not check to see how long the batteries last when used in this manner. Although it is not perfect, I don't think you can go far wrong buying this unit.
Reroute Reroute Reroute January 16, 2007 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
I was at first impressed with the unit while using it in town to navagate local streets and conditions. My dissatisfaction came while using it on a 1000 miles trip to Chicago. The quickest route was all interstate and the shortest route was all interstate. The unit continually tried to reroute me off of the interstate and onto state and local hwys. It doesn't have an interstate only feature. Every time I would pull over to a rest area it would try to reroute me off of the interstate. This would be a good unit for local travel only.
Nuvi is an excellent product! I am VERY pleased! January 16, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have had my Nuvi for 6 weeks and I use it almost every day. I just moved to a new city and it's been a tremendous help. Even before I moved, I dreaded going anywhere new because I might get lost. Now I venture into unknown territory with confidence. Nuvi was easy and fun to learn to use. The features that I enjoy most are the touch screen and the verbalization of street names. You can choose either a male or female voice and from many different accents. You can even choose another language if you like. If you take a wrong turn, Nuvi adjusts your route and you don't have to backtrack. (It says "recalculating" when it does this.) Nuvi has several features that I did not expect. It can provide a list of similar locations near you. For instance, gas stations, restaurants (broken down by cuisine), hospitals, etc. It contains an MP3 player which also reads audio books. The memory storage can be expanded by inserting a chip of up to 2 GB. You can save a list of favorite locations that can be easily recalled. It is very easy to carry and it comes with a nice case. The screen is just the right size. It's big enough to glance at while driving but not so big as to get in your way. One of the reasons I bought Nuvi was to enable me to drive across Houston to see my old friends. Without Nuvi I wouldn't even have attempted it. With Nuvi I can take the trip without having a map in the car. I believe that Nuvi makes traveling safer because I don't have to stop and ask for directions and I don't have to search for street signs and addresses while driving. I would buy it again and I would recommend it to anyone. My husband has an excellent sense of direction and he still enjoys using Nuvi. Nuvi is one of the best items I've ever purchased.

I have made much use of my 2+year old Garmin Quest. This is a real advance in appearance and user interface.
