 Good unit, but not what I was looking for July 18, 2007

I couldn't decide between the c550 and the nuvi 650. I purchased the c550, and although it is a nice unit, it turned out to be the wrong decision. I've since returned it and ordered the 650 instead. The main reasons were:
1) Unit is very large and bulky
2) The traffic feature was worthless. I live in the Philadelphia region, and although I get reception where I live, only portions of select major highways in the area actually seem to get data.
3) Graphics on the nuvi are better
4) I like the size of the screen on the nuvi better
It is a decent unit, and if I needed the traffic or bluetooth, I would have kept it. But I prefer the nuvi.

Easy to use. The sound level is good. Map is accurate. The screen could be larger. The ball mounting is effective. Unit is robust. The screen is readable even with sun glare. Unit works outside the house. Signal is lost inside concrete structure like a building or an enclose parking. Overall I do recommend the unit for those who also need the bluetooth wireleess remote for the cell phone.

The Garmin c550 is simple to operate, easy to read and very accurate in directions. I am totally satisfied with the product.

I have found that the Garmin SteetPilot always directs me to the major thoroughfares and will not acknowledge the shortest routes.

I have been using the C550 for about a week now and I love it. The traffic functions work pretty well in here the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I just love how the C550 reroutes me around traffic to save me gas and time. However, I would say the speakers on this unit need to be better. They tend to crackle and pop. I'm not sure if the unit was damaged or not in transit because I did find the unit sitting pretty loose in the box when I opened it. I may send the unit in for warranty since it might have been damaged during shipping. This is the only reason why I won't give the C550 five stars. If the speakers were better I'd give it five. Overall, the C550 is a great tool.
