Performed Superbly October 28, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is a great product. I just completed a 4500 mile trip with it and it performed superbly. The only problem I had was finding an unused FM channel in a large city like Los Angeles.
Garmin nuvi 660 October 25, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a great product. I bought the nuvi 660 this past May and have not regretted any aspect of the device. The nuvi is relatively user friendly. My wife and Mother-In-Law made a road trip to Kansas City and, for the first time, did not become lost one time with the Garmin in the car showing the way. The bluetooth feature is handy but can be awarkward if privacy is desired for the conversation (although it is possible to turn off the blue tooth for selected calls). We used the Garmin on our vacation to San Diego and So. California and found the navigation to be pretty flawless. I don't care for the FM transmitter and haven't use it much. I do not live near a metropolitian area so haven't used the Traffic receiver outside of the trial period when in San Diego. The Traffic Receiver really did not make a difference in driving around Southern Calidfornia while we were there. I did buy the bean bag dash mount for use in California were windshield mounts are illegal. The bean bag mount worked great in our rental. About the only real regret is that I did not wait a little longer to get the 700 series nuvi which apparently corrects a couple of navigation issues not found in the 660 such as lack of mutiple routes and way points. Otherwise, the nuvi is a great product. One other thing, I use a MAC at home and Garmin now offers their web updater for OSX in addition to the PC webupdater to keep the Garmin software current.
Awesome except... October 24, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
First off, I LOVE this GPS. I think it is fantastic and is the best I have owned (previously had a Magellan - Grrrr). The only two issues I have with it are the Bluetooth connection to my phone (people complain that I sound like I am talking to them at the bottom of a well) and the FM transmitter (it is horribly weak). Every other piece and part of this GPS unit is truly magnificient and I highly recommend it even with the two issues mentioned above. Can't go wrong with a NUVI!
A life-saver! October 23, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
My husband bought this, and has already had a lot of fun with it-sort of an electronic toy. Very useful, though, and takes the pressure off the passenger to read maps, find restaurants and gas stations, and locations. We love it!
A MUST for the World Traveler! October 23, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this with the intention of taking it with me as I traveled the world for work...and I must say in all fairness, it has exceeded all expectations!
It comes pre-installed with the North American mapset. Internal memory will store an additional mapset. Add a 4GB (or more these days) memory stick, and toss a few more map sets on! It atuomatically loads up the correct maps when it aquires the satellites.
Bluetooth for the cell phone combined with the built-in FM transmitter for your car stereo make it a necessity in areas where it's illegal to use a cell phone while driving. (Everyone should be talking hands-free, if you MUST talk, while driving, anyway!)
Biggest down side: Maps are in DIRE NEED of updating. Most sets except US are a couple years out-dated. They're also too expensive compared to other products! Especially the Middle East set. May as well just buy another (local) GPS unit if you need that set!
