I would return this item if i dont loose any money its very clunky and and lacks user friendliness car suction stand/arm is very large and rediculous that it needs its own front seat :-) interface very difficult and confusing why did I buy it? well, a big mistake just by item description i recommend the Garmin 650 or or any other garmin than this product
learning to use the 7100 January 24, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am a new user. To date I have been impressed with the unit. I wish that the logbook feature that uploads to a spred sheet would work from the turn by turn page. I would like to view the entire trip on hard copy.
My unit is locked on eastern time. The logbook must have the first leg entered before you start.

THIS IS THE COOLEST GPS OUT THERE. TAKE THE TIME TO UNDERSTAND ALL OF THE FEATURES BEFORE HEADING OUT ON YOUR JOURNEY.
Nice hardware and features but with a dangerous software flaw January 21, 2008 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
I like almost everything about this product except the route planning. I've used the product for about a month now and have noticed several very serious issues with its route planning algorithm:
1) Optimal routes are anything but optimal. Several reviewers have mentioned this issue, but none has quantified it - so here's a real example. On one common destination I use, the unit picks a route that adds 30 miles to what would normally be a 60 mile trip to theoretically save 5 minutes. That's crazy. It's not faster (it doesn't account for the 30 extra traffic lights on the route) and it wastes fuel. Both are serious problems, but with gas at $3/gallon it's a problem that bites you in the wallet.
2) To get around the optimal route issue I tried using the shortest route option. This produces a much shorter route. However, I usually use the unit on rural roads. It doesn't have an option to avoid unimproved (gravel or dirt roads) or seasonally available roads. Because of that it recommends any game trail, logging road or dirt road that is in its data base. This is down right dangerous given that I don't drive an AWD vehicle and I'm current using it in the winter. Last year James Kim of CNet lost his life by following similar bogus route data from Mapquest.
At this point, I consider the unit not only useless, but down right dangerous. I can't give this unit a negative enough review. I wish I could select negative stars.
This is my first return to Amazon even though I've purchased items from them for years. Thankfully Amazon has a good return policy and the return was easy. Nice job Amazon.
I replaced the Navigon with a Garmin 360. I'm very happy with the Garmin.
Poor customer support January 21, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Within 15 days of my purchase of this product, the windshield mount broke (apparently made of some cheap plastic). Instead of returning the product back to Amazon, I decided to call Navigon's customer service department to get the replacement for the broken part. I was told by the customer rep that this was a recurring problem and then I was given a run around. Initially I was told that they will ship the new part in 2 days free of charge. After 2 days when I called them back to see if the part was shipped, I was told that they still did not have the part. After numerous calls and dealing with very hostile and impolite customer service reps, I finally gave up and sent the unit back to Amazon for replacement. I am not happy with the unit at all. It gets to your destination only after taking you all over the State. I also have Pharos 150 GPS for roughly 1/3rd the price but 100 times better. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT! LOOKS ARE DECEPTIVE!
