4 out of 5 stars navigon 7100   June 13, 2008
I purchased the Navigon 7100 as a refurbished unit.
I do not like the slow touch screen, that it did not come with a instruction manual-except on line, and sometimes gives wrong directions. The other day we were searching for the closest Cheveron station, and it brought us down a side road where ther were none at all. We also were searching for a Wendys restaurant and it also brought us to a residential neighborhood. Maybe someone named Wendy lived there. LOL 95% of the time it will take me to where I ask. Also you can not type in a address as it is given-you have to put in parts of it then see what it comes up with, sometimes it will not recognize the address that you are trying to put in at all. It only seems to come with one voice, and she miss pronounces the words frequently. The voice is very unnatural.
The positive things about this unit are-The lane assist is great, and I use this feature all the time im Miami. The traffic update is another feature that I love. The Zaget rating system has come in handy for the restaurants, and I love all the info it gives. Graphics are nice and much better than Tom Tom or Garmin.
I had a Garmin that I returned before I bought this one. I must admit they both have their pros and cons, but overall I would choose the Navigon. For me the positives outweigh the negatives. We have named her Ms Navigon. She is polite, and not as irritating as Ms Garmin if you miss a turn (even if she doesn't pronounce the words right). I am still learning her features, as I can't refer to a handy manual and have to go to the computer when I have a question. I could print the manual, but that is a lot of pages to print and they would be bulky to carry around. That is my biggest grip about the Navigon. I travel all over Fl for a living and it has saved me a lot of time and money in gas. It still has a lot of room for improvement though. Maybe the new unit they are coming out with will be better.

1 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed   June 12, 2008

My experience with a GPS is the Garman Ique-M5, so that set my expectations. The Navigon has traffic info, 3d images, and street names but the benefits end there. The Navigon gave really stupid directions and I tried all of the different settings. Setting it for "fastest route", it would take me off of a main road to go through a sub-division just to come back to the main road later, and that is only 1 example. Also, if the address does not exist, you cannot save your position. There is also no option to find a restaurant or gas station on-route; you can only ask if something is nearby, therefore if you search for a place nearby it may take you backwards from your route. It will also not allow you to put in permanent detours - say if a bridge is out, you cannot put it in there to not ever route that way. I was very disappointed, so I sold mine, and I am saving up for a Garmin unit. It will be about $100 more, but at least I will not get lost using it, and I will cuss less.

4 out of 5 stars It Works as Advertised   June 8, 2008
The Navigon 7100 works just as it was advertised to work. At least it has so far. It's done a good job of getting me where I need to go and the display is very good. The only complaint I would have is about the speaker. It is hard to hear the spoken directions when there is any wind or other exterior noise. Since I drive a convertible this has been a problem. I do have to watch the screen display. It connects to my phone just fine but again, the speaker is so weak that you can't hear the person you're talking to. I didn't buy it to use as an accessory to my phone though so that's not really a consideration.

5 out of 5 stars Love this GPS!   May 31, 2008
So easy to use and set up. Love the mount which affixes to the windshield. Haven't benefitted from traffic feature yet. Plenty of POI's. Glad i got the widescreen as you have to be quite precise when typing in letters and #'s. Volume is great-- i can hear unit perfectly and i have the radio turned up quite loud. Would highly recommend this to anyone especially with lifetime free traffic.
