Navigon 7100 November 26, 2007 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
When I was making a decision to buy this navigation system I've read couple of negative reviews about this device and was almost discouraged. But when I got it - I realized the negative reviewers were just not bright enough to bend their dogamtic view of the routes. The system works like a clock, perfectly and dynamically reroutes. Even if it seems that it is suggesting something stranger than you'd expect - once you sit down with a map, you realize it does perfect job for the routing mode you've selected in the settings.
Pros: Excellent graphics, slim, fast, strong signal, lifetime TRAFFIC, reality view, lane assist, quick rerouting, many others
Cons: A little smaller graphical controls for my big hands, robotic voice, but still completely understandable.
Conclusion: excellent buy for the price.

Great product. Customer support was great. Needs to supply users manual in book form.
Somewhat dissapointing November 23, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I found this unit somewhat disappointing. I also own a couple Garmin Nüvi 350's so I have something to compare with. My main disappointments relate to the absence of an automatic standby mode when power is low: my car does not have power to the lighter outlet when the ignition is off. So if I forget to turn off the Navigon I return to a dead unit if. The Nuvi warns me that power is off and then automatically goes into power save mode within 30 seconds unless I tell it not to. Second disappointment is related to the routes it chooses. While testing it in areas I am very familiar with, it sometime wants to send me in downright absurd ways. They'll probably get me where I am going but it will take me much longer than needed to get there (10 minutes longer on a 30 minute trip is a non trivial variance). Another time it wanted me to take the HOV ramp which was not an option for me since I was alone in the car. To compound matters it kept trying to get me to do a u-turn for the next 4 minutes (persistent bugger)while I was driving the shortest way to the legit on-ramp (non HOV). Third disappointment is the lack of an automatic daytime/nightime switching. Seems to me that the manufacturer placed to much emphasis on form vs function. I would not buy this unit again based on my experience.
Great GPS - critics are overblown November 22, 2007 26 out of 30 found this review helpful
Bought this GPS because the display is large and bright, and I prefer the 3D view which is easier to follow when driving. Compared to the other models on the market, the price/features were very competitive. Absolutlely love the unit. I usually charge the unit at home, enter my destinations ahead of time from my desk, and then mount it and go. Noticed a few odd routing choices vs some of preferences in my own neighborhood, but when I'm in unfamilair areas, it always seems to do just fine. Haven't had any of the issues others have expressed - no U turns, no traffic data problems, POIs are good, satellite signal is not a problem in the car, mount is fine (I like the little flexibility), battery power is good, I like the portability of the unit. Unlike others, I like that it does not bug you when you make a wrong turn or modify the route yourself - it simply recalibrates on the fly. Haven't noticed any slowness, or bugs. Sure, maybe its not perfect - I can't imagine any mapping system is. But weighed against its features and ease of use, I'm still very happy I bought this unit and have recommended it to everyone I know.
Disappointed with Navigon 7100 November 22, 2007 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
Navigon 7100 GPS Portable Automobile Navigator I purchased the Navigon 7100 thinking I would be getting a big screen easy to read for the money. The trouble is the image is smaller than the smaller screen of the Garmin Nuvi 360. The Navigon 7100 does not prompt very quick when you make a wrong turn and recalulate. It also does not promt you far enough ahead of time, when your turn is coming up. It prompts you when you get right there. The Navigon is a lot harder to work with. I returned it and bought a Garmin Nuvi 360. Very user freindly.
