5 out of 5 stars Worth Every Penny   November 2, 2006

A solid little unit. I've owned three different GPS antennas for my PDA, and this one is definitely the best of the three.

It holds signal when under my seat, in my glovebox, in my pocket, and in pretty intense urban canyons. Battery lasts ~11 hrs for me during long trips etc. I'm using it with Tom Tom 6 on a Window's Mobile pocket pc. I say, worth the extra couple of bucks.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Product   September 15, 2006

After using this product for 3 months I am yet to find something wrong with it. We have been using it with MS streets and trips. It works flawlessly. It gets a fix (cold start) in any setting - in urban canyon settings, at high speeds on the freeway, in wooded areas, inside my apartment. It even works if you keep it in the glove box of your car. We have driven through tunnels. It loses the signal a few meters into the the tunnel (not surprising) and gets a fix flawlessly with a couple of seconds of leaving the tunnel.
The software has no trouble communicating with the reciever. We have tried it with 2 different versions of MS streets and trips on three different laptops. With a basic knowledge of Bluetooth pairing the set up is a breeze.
The battery life is exceptional.
It comes with the complete kit a AC charger, a DC charger and a leather pouch. You can't ask for more.
It's really compact (smaller than most cell phones) and not too heavy either.

The other GPS reciever that I have tried was a Delorme Eartmate. The delorme would never fixate signal when driving (cold start). We always had to pull over get a fix and then start driving. The Delorme always lost signal if you drove between 3 or 4 storey buildings. That can hardly be described as an urban canyon! It was horrible!!

4 out of 5 stars Never getting lost again   June 26, 2006

I have to be careful what I write in this review because I'm not technical enough to figure out if problems arise from this GPS, my phone, or the software I use to navigate. I'm using this with a HP iPaq 6325 with iGuidance software.

The price is actually comparable to the other SiRF III bluetooth GPS receiver that Amazon sells because what this seller doesn't tell you is that they give you a Arkon vent mount.

From the time it took to boot up until my software detected a GPS device was about a minute. Again, not sure if that's my phone or the software but it's pretty quick for me anyway.

It came charged and after a couple of days of irregular use, I had to charge it again. The little rubber cover for the plug to charge has already come off of mine. It automatically turns off if it's not being used for awhile. The leather belt clip it comes feels like it's made of really nice quality.

On average, I get about 7-9 satellites in my apartment and when I'm driving around. Sometimes it gets confused and can't find a fix on my direction, even though I'm sitting stationary so it keeps rotating my map. Maybe a phone and/or software issue again.

As for now, product works as stated. If I get more familiar with my new phone, I may be able to decifer more clearly what problem arises from where.
