USB Issues (PC BIOS corruption) Made Me Too Leery September 16, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Every time the TomTom 910 is connected (USB) to my PC it corrupts my PC's BIOS. Spent quite some time understanding what was happening (w/Dell Tech Support). Subsequently, I then spent >1 hr. with TomTom Customer Service only to be told that I need to call back on Monday for Tech Support.
I had read the comments relative to problems buyers were having with this unit, but it is the only unit I am aware of that comes preloaded with maps of Europe (I'm traveling to Germany in a month). So I decided to give it a try, but this experience left me very leery relative to the reliability of this product. Guess I'll be using a map in Germany.
European coverage disapopinting September 15, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bought for trip to Ireland. Tom Tom web site says "Complete coverage" of Europe. As soon as we got off a major highway there was no map coverage, that's when you need the gps/map coverage most! Called Tom Tom on return she said I was lucky! to have any coverage at all in Ireland since they only cover northern Ireland. Must be a UK company. The words complete coverage should be removed from the product description. They should consider a better customer support poloicy especially when a brand new customer calls in unstatisfied.
No Maps required September 14, 2007 Excellent!! Quick response to directions, that other products don't have. You will recieve instructions well in advance of your approach, where-as other comprobable products sometimes give instructions AFTER you have gone past the point of making a turn. Mapping of US, so far exceeds other similar product. Have not yet been told "street does not exist". Dissapointed in not having RDS-TMC available in the US.(maybe soon to come).
Good for those who are lost all the time... September 12, 2007 If you need to get someone something that will help them find their way and their not so good at reading a Mapsco then this is the right choice. It comes with several handy features like bluetooth speakerphone, it reads the name of the next street not just how far, it can hold music and pictures, and it works well at night. the only draw backs I have found so far is that the day display can get glare from the sun preventing clear view, the plug in to the cd/radio to have the sound come thru the car speakers is a little difficult or non-existant depending on your car stereo, the extended microphone doesn't really help unless it's next to your mouth, and after a few bumps the gps likes to start facing downward.
It's a decent GPS September 11, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Because I travel a ton, I always rent a GPS with my rental cars. The GO 910 is one of the more difficult ones to learn how to use. Plus, the car charger is faulty (I called the manufacturer) in that it only helps sustain a charge for a couple weeks. After that, you have to plug it into the wall charger. Pretty annoying if you want to know the truth.
