A real lifesaver! March 21, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Great device for the terminally lost! Love that it's so portable. We can pass it from family member to family member, so whoever is driving to an unfamiliar location can use it that day. It also gives the names of small communities I never even knew existed. It's loud enough to be heard clearly over car sounds. It recalculates quickly when you detour, and helps you find the route again. Another plus: it tells you how fast you're going, so you can check to be sure your speedometer is accurate. Even though it was expensive, I wish I'd bought one years ago.
Great product easy to use March 20, 2007 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just received the Nuvi 350 three days ago and found it easy to use and had fun listening to the pronounciation of some of the Hawaiian street names on the island of Oahu. I found the names of the streets accurate and precise. Enjoyed using the Nuvi and look forward to using it in New York in the very near future. Would recommend this instrument to anyone who enjoys travelling and also concerned about traffic safety. Definitely a worthwhile investment.
Perfect March 20, 2007 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I recently purchased the Nuvi 350 before heading off to New York City and Boston. This GPS unit performed extremely well and did everything I wanted it to. Sure it doesn't come with the little expansion card that gives you reviews for hotels and stuff....but who cares! This item out of the box lets you search any business anywhere, and even gives you the phone number. In large cities it will even tell you where the nearest subway or transit stop is! It only got confused when I tried to navigate NYC's really tight streets (i.e. chinatown) but it got me to the right area. Battery life on this unit is AMAZING....and its SO lightweight. The leather case protects very well, and the unit gets very good reception. In deep parking garages or some places in Times Square it loses signal but that was expected. Pedestrian mode lets you use the Nuvi for walking directions which is great for sight seeing and exploration. The built in SD card reader is great for viewing pictures on the go, and the built in MP3 player is great, with no restrictions (meaning drag and drop capability)! Comes with a car charger, and a very effective suction mount that can be moved from vehicle to vehicle in seconds. All in all the Nuvi 350 is great for the price, and does its job flawlessly.
Not perfect, but very nice March 20, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Amazing product. Not every direction is is the best (it will get you there, usually) and new roads will always be an issue.
However, it is easy to use and works better than I would have ever guessed.
One needs to learn some of the features to use it effectively, and it does not like starting up when cold (will take a long time).
Also, when it shows the distance to various locations, that distance must be direct, because the driving distance is alway longer.
Overall, could not be happier.
Data base out of date March 19, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this product and just finished using it on a 3000+ mile trip. It did an OK job, but not a great job. A lot of roads, exits, etc. have changed since the current data base was established. I don't know if this is product-specific or if it is a problem with all GPS navigators. Naturally it is useless in newly developed subdivisions, but there are streets that have changed names in my town at least 10 years ago and the this unit still refers to the old street name. It also refers to streets that are county, state, and federal highways by the highway number instead of street names in some places and street names instead of highway numbers in other places--frustrating when you are trying to go to intersection in a town when you don't know the local street names.
