This unit is great - I have now used it on a number of trips, and it gets us there and back without trouble. An unlooked-for benefit is that it actually improves my driving; I no longer am squinting at roadsigns or maps while driving so my eyes are always on the road. Highly recommended! I also strongly recommend the Garmin portable friction dashboard mount that is sold separately. The mounts that come with the 350 leave marks, and are not that easy to use or move, while the friction mount (a bean bag type of mount) does not slip, and the whole mounted unit can be easily put in a closed compartment in your car, out of sight of a robber, when not in use.

Small screen but very functional. It's easier to use than the one that came with one of our cars. And you can carry it with you when in a strange city &/or area.

This critter is dead-on accurate as to "her" directions; she will take you routes you've never thought of if you want the "shortest" route somewhere.She does, however, have no interest in avoiding busy routes - and really sounds annoyed when you divert from her instructions. One problem she does have is that all her maps are not up to date - and Garmin is woefully unhelpful in updating. She keeps insisting that I take a one-way street home, which would have me driving across 2 neighbors properties. oh, yes, she defaults to a feminine voice, but one can change it to a male voice, which is almost more annoying when defied.

I bought this for my husband for Father's Day and he couldn't believe I purchased the nuvi 350 for such a low price. He was thrilled to receive it. He was able to download the most recent information without any problems. It has been very easy to use right out of the box. The only negative was when he was in downtown Boston and it tried to have him turn down one way streets. Fortunately he knew a little bit of the area and didn't follow the instructions. The positive was that he was able to circumvent an accident on a major highway by just getting off an exit and have the GPS guide him to his destination.
I think you would always want to have a backup from Mapquest or similar with you just in case!
