Freakin love this thing October 14, 2008 Replaced my Cable, TV, Receiver, and CD remotes with this one. Can't do some deeper functions such as changing TV display settings, but for normal everyday use I freakin love this thing. Really love that the buttons light up for use in the dark.
Great idea, disappointing performance October 14, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
Enabling a universal remote to work across all the different brands and models of electronics in your entertainment system must be a complicated and intricate process requiring teams of highly skilled electronic geniuses working around the clock. Obviously, Logitec does not have such teams because this product fails in most areas.
As other reviewers have mentioned, in order to program this unit skip the crappy software they send with it and download the newest version from the Logitec web site. This will still not be enough, though, to get this turkey running, so be prepared to spend an additional 30 minutes on the phone with tech support and another two or three hours tweaking the buttons to get them to do what you want. Then, after everything is set up just the way you like it, be prepared to be frustrated beyond belief as the remote works fine one minute and decides not to the next.
The main culprit seems to be the "activities" buttons which automatically turn on and set up your system the way you want it with the press of one button. If this idea sounds too good to be true, that's because it is. About half the time something doesn't come on or is switched to the wrong setting so you have to go through the "help" menu. That usually clears it up, but meanwhile you've missed the first five minutes of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. I really like the idea of this remote much better than the actual execution, so it gets two stars for ideas, mostly. Too bad, since with a little more effort it might actually be a great little remote.
Great product - some tweaking needed October 11, 2008 Although almost inevitably you will need to call customer support (I had timing issues when selecting different video inputs that needed special programming from Logitech folks), the end-result is fantastic. No more calls from my wife trying to set up our system so that the kids could watch a DVD! You just select your activity, be it watching a DVD or watching TV, and the remote will take care of everything, from turning on the right devices to switching inputs. Best remote at this price.
Where have you been? October 9, 2008 This universal remote is great! Easy to setup and easy to use, even a cave man could do it. This unit proves that not all universal remote controls are the same. Spend a little more from the beginning, get a lot of extras in the end. This does it all and does it well. I only replaced 3 remotes, but watching TV or a DVD has never, I repeat NEVER been this easy.
Great remote for the price October 7, 2008 This remote has done a fantastic job for me. I have a very complicated system to control with a tv, satellite, av receiver and xbox 360 that all require precise input changes to work properly together.
It took a while to program it just the way I wanted (read about 2 weeks) but now my entire system is so simple to control that my visiting mom could figure it out. This remote has made controlling my living room so much easier! Thanks Harmony!
