4 out of 5 stars Nice gadget....   January 14, 2008
I waited until it went on sale at Amazon for $50. I didn't think it's worth more than that. Usual price is $129 at circuitcity, $79-99 at Amazon. Two things I didn't particularly like about it is that you cannot chose the picture when it is on clock mode (you can only view the first pic on your USB drive), and it does not have a battery back-up. Other than that, for $50, it has all the features I needed (alarm, clock, radio, picture frame), and I read you can play movies with it too.

3 out of 5 stars Decent multimedia device, average alarm clock   January 12, 2008

I bought this to replace an old CD alarm clock of mine that was getting too worn out. I don't want to beat this to death, but I am trying to figure out why someone would create an alarm clock that can play back MP3s but won't let you use them for an alarm? As I see it, this is a DIVX and MP3 player. It is also a basic photo frame. It is also an alarm clock. Yet, none of these features work with each other. I can't imagine anyone using this as a MP3 player when there are cheaper solutions that can do much better. The built in speakers are too mediocre for even casual listening. No headphone jack either. The speakers are, however, suitable for waking you up in the morning but only to preset ambient sounds or FM radio. I don't use the radio because there is nothing being broadcasted at 5AM on a Sunday morning that I want to hear. The ambient sounds grew annoying to me quickly, so I am using the alarm tone to wake me up. That is a function even an $8 alarm clock is capable of. Multimedia is good. Great implementation of SD/USB storage. Too bad the menu is so poor. It displays file names in xxxxxx~1.xxx format! I haven't seen file names displayed like that since the mid 1990's. I only put one album on it because too many files will be displayed in a very confusing format. Video playback is pretty good, but how useful is it? If you can get the unit very cheap, it is a fun toy. It looks great. A cheap USB flash drive or SD is a requirement. No battery back up! It displays the date (mine even does so correctly with no firmware update needed). The software, mentioned several times by other reviewers, is really underdeveloped. If they can improve it, this would be a killer product. Unfortunately, as shipped it makes for only a basic alarm clock with unrelated multimedia playback capabilities tacked onto it. I tried liking this but I am disappointed that I will have to find something else or use my old CD clock to wake me up in the morning.

5 out of 5 stars WOW, this frame/calender/radio does it all very well!   January 7, 2008

I bought this when amazon had it listed for $50... I feel like i stole this! Its a great all around frame and desktop tool. I'd pay up to $100 for it, but i'm considered "cheap". Other places have it listed for $180

5 out of 5 stars Innovative Clock/Picture Frame   January 7, 2008

I am very happy with my purchase its a combination between a good desktop alarm clock, and a digital picture frame. Its easy to use, bright with auto Dim function, resolution could be nbetter and screen size could be bigger but its more than acceptable as it is. Not to forget the excellent digital ratio and its reception.

3 out of 5 stars A decent value, but could be a lot better   January 3, 2008
The Good: All in one device with a compact form factor. Good option if you are looking to replace an old alarm clock as we were.

The Bad: Requires a storage card for best and most cosmetic operation. Screen emits a fair amount of light even with the dimmest mode --- my wife had to turn it the other way in order to fall asleep.

The Ugly: Low resolution screen and photos are slow to load. No slide show function in clock mode.
