5 out of 5 stars Great Trip   April 18, 2008

We had a flat tire on I95 in Maryland last week. We got off the interstate and got the tire changed. It's "recalculating" mode got us back to our destination. It was indispensible on our trip. It made the trip fly by. We thought we had the quickest way to go, it brought us on roads we never travelled and the trip was much quicker.

This is my first GPS. I recently bought it and headed south on about a thousand mile trip. It was great. Easy to use... I never needed a map of any kind. While at a hotel in South Carolina my son wanted to go bowling... push points of interest... recreation... bowling, and bam! 1.3 miles... push go and we went straight there!
No glitches and easy to use. I am happy to have this sweet little machine.

5 out of 5 stars Garmin Nuvi 260 hits the mark!   April 14, 2008
I have used several Nuvi's over the years and bought this one for a birthday present for my 16 year old daughter. I wanted a bare bones dedicated GPS with TTS for street names. This GPS unit meets that requirement perfectly. There are a few long reviews that go into extreme detail, but this is a basic GPS. I have used the Nuvi 350, 660, and 750, all good units. In the end I alway end up just using them as basic GPS's. If you are looking for just a GPS with TTS buy the Garmin Nuvi 260. It is excellent!

4 out of 5 stars Good product at a fair price.   April 13, 2008
I purchased the Nuvi 260 as a replacement for a Street Pilot 2610 which now has permanent placement on my motorcycle. It is an excellent gps with a much sharper screen than the old 2610.

The "detail" on the screen is quite different than on the 2610, in that a lot of clutter that shows on the 2610 doesn't show on the Nuvi...things like all of the stores, bars, etc that you aren't looking for do not show on the screen of the Nuvi like they did on the 2610. Sometimes I miss that extra information.

The voice is clear and the pronounciation is understandable if occasionally a little odd. It even pronounces the names of way points that you add to it's data base...nice.

Occasionally it does direct you along a route that is a little strange compared to the route I would usually take...this is of course in an area where I usually traveling...In finding locations from here in Nebraska to many locations on a trip to California it worked flawlessly, even in finding some obscure hot springs on really remote roads.

I loaned it to my daughter for a trip she was making to find some warm weather...she loved it so much that I gave it to her and purchased a Nuvi 260 with the wide screen for myself...the wide screen is nice, but I don't find the wide screen to be that much better, just larger.

I wouldn't have purchased the wider screen if it hadn't been for a great sale locally that made it cost the same as the smaller screen.
