4 out of 5 stars Harmon Kardon GPS   June 23, 2008

Works great. Recovers and resets if you take a different route. It has my house 400 feet down the street. It seems to always want to take me on longer routes than it should.

5 out of 5 stars know where I am going   June 23, 2008

I bought the GPS on impulse as someone who has gotten lost in unsavory places. One day I had to get to a meeting , had no time to map quest. I ran out the door, entered the address and followed the voice the whole way, and it got me there easily. My only complaint is that is doesn't activate until we are in the street. But it estimates time involved in the travels and adjusts the time as it calculates the real time speed. Having a 17 year old driving it gives us both a level of comfort that he can get places easily. Great!

The GPS unit itself seems to be well designed and feels like it would hold up well. The manual is sparse, but in its defense, it didn't look like there was that much to be explained so it was probably adaquate.

I'd like to be able to review its functionality, but HK forgot to put the wall plug prongs in the box. I'd already found out the Amazon description was wrong in that this unit doesn't have the FM transmitter and wireless button in the box. I would have gone ahead and kept it (FM transmitters are pretty cheap) but when I called HK to get a set of prongs, I was told I'd have to schlep out to the car, in a thunderstorm, to get the amazon reciept before they'd talk to me. Now who in the heck would call them with a product seriel number trying to scam a set of wall prongs? That was stupid and I don't reward stupidity. Its being sent back. I'll get a Nuvi.

2 out of 5 stars Good for media player functions, not good for navigation. The screen looks awesome.   May 23, 2008

I bought one of these for my dad for Christmas. It pretty much sucks for navigation. Videos and stuff work alright but the navigation is difficult to use. It automaticlaly zooms in when you are ocmming to a turn, super annoying. That's just one of many things. It's also difficult to move around the map and choose your own route. A GPS I had from 2002 was simpler to use.

It has text to speech, but no voice recognition and an irritating GPS layout. It doesn't take a ridiculous amount of time to connect to satillites but it takes a couple minutes sometimes.

I see this as more useful for watching videos than anything else, but I got it for my dad to use as a GPS, what a let down.

HK kind of ruined their brand name, which used to stand for excellence, with this product.

It doesn't remember where you've traveled either, to answer popovich.

It works as a GPS, and gets you from point a to point b, but it's just not as good as it's competitors.

4 out of 5 stars Great Little GPS   May 23, 2008

Bought this for my husband for Christmas. We've used it quite a bit and we're really pleased with its functionality. Frankly we've only really used the GPS function but I've played a bit with the others and I'm always meaning to investigate them fully but haven't yet. So far we have no issues with this unit and we enjoy having 'Fred' (that's what we call him) along for the ride. Of course one of our favorite games is to go a different way than Fred wants us to and listen to him get 'frustrated'....so we annotate his directions ..family fun in 2008 :)
