3 out of 5 stars Needs work   April 7, 2007

I bought this to take to Europe for both street navigation as well as help in walking around the cities. I also bought the travel kit/translator.
In the cities, it didn't work at all. Since it is small, I was hoping to input places/hotels, etc and find them and my way back. Only worked about 20%of the time despite testimonials that it works in the valleys of NYC.
Its road navigation wasn't good either. It always got us off the main highways about 15miles early and sent us thru the backwoods on unnamed roads. Very disappointing.
Never got to use the translator because of the amount of scrolling it takes.
Overall I am not satisfied-maybe I expect too much?

4 out of 5 stars Fun once it finds the satellites   April 6, 2007

Works great once it finds the satellites, but sometimes it just doesn't. I occasionally turn it on and off to get it to find them, and wonder if there's something wrong with the unit. Other than that it's swell and lots of fun, and really user friendly. I bought it for someone with directional dyslexia, and she finds it really helpful. It's also great when you're out of town and want to get something to eat- you can search for Indian food in Berkeley and all the proximal Indian restaurants are displayed with distances next to each name. Just press the button and be taken there. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean they're open, or even still in business (usually it displays phone numbers you might want to call first). MP3 player works well, translators, currency exchangers, Audible books, I don't use. One last thing, it's really not good for displaying photos- kinda slow and the screen resolutions not really ideal for photos.

5 out of 5 stars Works Great. Love my nuvi   April 6, 2007

The portability of this unit is unsurpassed. I think everyone should dig a little deeper and get one of these ultra compact units instead of the bigger bulky units out there. The accuracy is great on this unit. The only down side of this unit is the volume level. I think it should be a little louder to compensate for high speed road noise.

4 out of 5 stars It must have the ability to learn   April 6, 2007

Just received my Nuvi 350. I've been having fun trying out all the features. The first thing I did was to enter my home address and tell it to take me there - I was parked in my driveway. It indicated that my house was a couple of houses up the street to the east. That didn't surprise me since map programs usually show my address east of where it really is. What did surprise me was that the Nuvi told me to go west to get there. I followed the instructions and drove around the block 'till It brought me to a house just short (east) of where I started.

Another curious thing that the Nuvi did was that it would take me out of the neighborhood on a route that was longer than necessary. After a few times it seemed to realize that there was a better way and started taking the more expeditious route.

I've noticed a few other quirks but nothing serious, just things that make me smile. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase. I'll really put it to the test this weekend as I use it on a trip to Los Angeles.

4 out of 5 stars Where does it say anything about the antenna?   April 5, 2007

I just opened my box with the New Nuvi. No manual, but a small fold out with some very brief instructions. I just want to see how to get somewhere! Why does it think I am in Kansas? So quite a few minutes later I find a small paragraph that I should look at on its web page. There I find it has the 79 page manual that tells me that I have to lift the small flap on the Nuvi. The Flap is the `Antenna'. So now the satellite can find the Nuvi,,,and where I AM NOW... Garmin predisposes that everyone has a computer to be able to use the device.............What a way to save paper, does everyone know how to use a GPS unit?
