Nuvi 350 is an excellent buy April 5, 2007 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I recently purchased the Nuvi 350 GPS after researching GPS units on the internet. It has performed exactly as I had hoped. It is easy to use and gives precise directions. The screen is easily viewable, even in bright sunlight and the verbal directions are clear and loud enough to be heard in heavy traffic. Very pleased with my purchase.
never get lost again ... recalculating... April 5, 2007 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
We have this thing for almost a year and it's very easy to use. Purchased it on Amazon and the price has dropped a lot since then due to newer model, but I still love the compact size.
Easy to do firmware update. After loading the new firmware, make sure you reboot the device twice to have proper update. Register on Garmin web site and they will notify you of updates.
Small enough to stick it to left corner of the windshield. The holding arm tends to fall off if dusty, so clean it with a damp towel before putting it on another windshield.
Used it in Paris and it was great. Kind of miss the feeling of being lost in a foreign country :) but saved ton of times.
It says the street name, so very convenient.
[04/05/2007 update] forgot to mention that if you'd like to protect the touch screen, purchase a screen protector from shieldzone. It's great.
Great little helper, but with some notes April 5, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Pluses
I have gotten mine as a gift, so it is free for me. I started using the unit shortly after I've got it. It is a great little helper. I upgraded the firmware to the latest version with the WebUpdater.
I live in the NYC metro area and I tried to confuse it many times going from Jersey to NY and back, changing routes suddenly and so on tricks but did not succeed. It was recalculating routes every time I fail to follow the directions. It did a great job pulling me out of a situation, in which I appeared to be lost (if I was not looking at the screen, but trying to find orientation on my own).
I turned the WAAS option and with it is really precise with it (less than 10 ft). Here is a link, explaining the option in detail: [...]
As a product it was very professionally packed and with all necessary connectors and cables to work in the car and charge the battery at home. No printed manual, but not a big deal. It was very intuitive to start with, so you would not need a lot of instructions.
I gave it 4 stars because of the following... Minuses (two things from the top of my head)
* The battery is Li-Ion and they are known for their 2 year average life, so if I need to use it in 3 years from now, the chances are I will not be able to use it without external power source. There is no way to change the battery, except if (my guess only) you open the unit up, unsolder the old and solder a new one on the board.
* There is not enough information about the commercial places like grossery and department stores. Yet there is enough space on the card to add them. When I first connected it, the free space was over 500 MB. I hope if there is a later update of the maps, they will include all of the missing objects.
It's Ok April 5, 2007 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The product works fine... the voice on the system is extremely annoying and shrill. Other than that I wish I didn't see the price go down almost a hundred dollars... after I purchased it.
Viewing the screen a problem in sunlit environ. April 5, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
As is the case with most camcorders and digital cameras featuring a video screen, the data on the Nuvi 350 screen is barely visible in direct or indirect sunlight when mounted on the windshield. And since 90% of my driving is in daylight hours and since I reside in the Southeast US where the sun's brightness is significantly higher than in the northern climes, viewing the display is a problem. Only complaint I have. All other features are most satisfactory. Just wish I could see the data more clearly, at a quick glance actually, so my attention could be where it should be, primarily outside the vehicle.
