Buy it! August 11, 2008 We've been considering a gps for the car for some time including in-dash models. We finally had what we considered a "good excuse" - a trip to make a cruise where we could not be late. I researched a bit on-line and found reviews stating that Garmins typically give better routes. The nuvi 350 is about the cheapest model that will announce street names when it is telling you about your next turn (which is a good feature to have). We have used it for several trips and we are satisfied.
A feature that is often but not always a good thing is it marks branches in the road like they are turns. Sometimes this is great because you need to be paying attention and get in the right lane. The nuvi 350 helps in those circumstances. Other times there is really nothing you need to do and it is kind of a waste. Overall, I think this is good but the map could use some work (like I-20 intersection with I-277 in Columbia, SC area, it is a nothing when you are on I-20).
I cannot tell about the routes. Going to our cruise we had to cross DC around noon. The nuvi 350 was quite insistent on us taking I-395 to I-295 right through DC. We did not think that was the best about noon on a Saturday. We took I-495 around and got held up about 30 minutes by traffic but it worked OK. On the way back, the nuvi 350 directed us to I-495. It also took us on a loop around Richmond on the way north but right through Richmond on the way back. I wish I knew a bit more about the logic it uses but the nuvi routes, when we took them, worked out fine.
I have another little hand-held in our boat but this is the first car GPS I have experience with. I do not know if other models would be better but my research indicates they would not. I do know the nuvi 350 is a fine GPS and a great deal at $200.

My husband has a girlfriend---her name is Garmin! August 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I gave my husband the Garmin 350 for Father's Day this June. We finally got around to using it when we went to GA. for our vacation. We both could not get over how great it is. I am map person, I have always loved looking the route up and seeing what lays ahead but this is so easy it has made us both lazy travelers now. We love it! Easy to use - even for two less techno advanced seniors.!
Very happy with Nuvi 350 August 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This system simply amazes me with what all it can do. I thought it would be hard to see on the small screen and complicate to operate but it is so easy. I would recommend it to everyone.
What a deal! August 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
An unbelievable steal of a deal at Amazon's $199.99 price. Incredibly useful for anyone for pleasure or business. On vacation, goes from vehicle to pocket to save plenty of time for enjoyment instead of time spent searching for locations. For business, time = $$$ in sales, this will get you there fast. Precise, easy to use (my techno-phobe wife learned to use it in minutes), and super battery life. A side note, as a former small town official, at this price there isn't a police, fire or ambulane crew anywhere that should be with out this GPS, minimal tax dollars for a great return!!
Dependable, no fuss & accurate GPS August 10, 2008 I purchased this GPS to help me drive from NJ to Niagara Falls and it performed brilliantly. While going to Niagara it took us through some of the most scenic upstate new york country roads, and while coming back it took us through regular highways. We loved the drive through lush country roads that we would have never seen but for this wonderful unit. And while coming back, we were stuck at traffic jams in PA, and without the FM Traffic receiver, we could not foresee it, but no problem, hit the detour button and this wonderful unit plotted an alternate course immediately taking us through rarely seen roads in Pennsylvania, beautiful, loved the drive back.
Pros: Accurate Navigation, Text to Speech, 3D View, Extremely Light, Easy to Operate, Lovely Database of Points of Interest (We found a few restaurants we needed on the way easily) Cons: Lousy Audio Quality for Music (Don't bother using the MP3 player), No Volume Control, Windshield Mount not good, unit keeps falling off regularly, somewhat confusing directions during turns (turn left at xyz street and then turn right, however that right turn is probably 3 or 4 streets down, so don't turn immediately if it says so, look at the display)
