4 out of 5 stars Time Saver   February 17, 2008

I never thought I needed a GPS, guy thing, but I bought the 7200 Garmin for my business, for the employees to help them learn a new route, up to 28 via points, I have found that it is a very good tool for me too when going to a new location I've never been. It may not take you the fastest way every time and I have to watch out streets a big truck can't go down but it will get you there. The BIG touch screen is great. Good satellite reception even though it sits one foot below the dash, could use an outside antenna.
The worst thing I hate is when you leave a via point and it decides you haven't been there yet and routes you back. The cradle lock for the 7200 has also broken and I can't get it out of it.
Yes there are flaws in the software and hardware, but the timesavings over shadow these flaws.

When I opened the box, I was really surprised at how bulky and heavy this unit is. Look at the picture in the 7500 description for a better idea. I don't have a place to mount this monster. Windshield mount isn't an option and dashmount doesn't allow enough height. The size of the part you will permanently glue to your dash is quite large.
I wouldn't consider this portable - by the time you connect this to the XM antenna (which isn't portable either), and your radio, you won't be casually moving it.
The features, functions and effectiveness may be wonderful, particularly if you have a truck and you aren't concerned about theft. I wish there were better pictures showing the mount and explaining the connections required to make it work correctly.
I returned it unused and am considering my alternatives.

This navigator is great. The large LCD Monitor is great for viewing, the voice commands are understandable and we love being able to move it from one vehicle to another, in fact we are getting ready to go on vacation and planning on taking it with us for use in the rental car! If you are debating on which navigator to buy...I highly recommend this one.

I recently purchased the Garmin 7200. It has the wide 7"screen so it is very easy to see when you are driving a "Hummer" if the screen were smaller it would be eaten up by the dashboard alone. I also use it in my truck for work. It has saved me hours in travel time from one job site to another, which I must travel everyday. It is very portable, I placed the permanent holder in my truck and I bought a portable holder to move it to my Hummer. It is very precise in its directions and has shown me different routes of which has saved me several hours of travel time per week. I had to give her a name, I named her Penelope, my buddy at work has one also and he named her "Lucy". My company is thinking about purchasing them for all the trucks in the fleet. I would recommend this product to everyone.

The large screen is great for older eyes - glasses to read but not to drive. Presentation is very good. Updates are quick.
