5 out of 5 stars simple navigation   January 21, 2007
This is the first product of this type for me to use. It is so simple to use you won't need the manual. So far I've just used it in area's that I'm familar with and it is flawless. I did study the various products availible and I still belive that the c530 was the best choice for the money. I'm glad I didn't buy the lessor models. It's easy to see in daylight and dark. I saw complaints about the windshield mount, which has given no problems whatsoever. Now I can't wait to head into area's that I'm not familiar with, because I'll do so with confidence.

5 out of 5 stars Garmin Streetpilot keeps the smiles on Grandparents Faces!   January 20, 2007
After a harrowing trip to my daughters' swim meet, I bought the 'streetpilot' for my father and his wife. They arrived at the next meet with broad smiles and rave reviews! I bought the Garmin Nuvi for my husband so we could use it as a handheld device when in NYC. The 'streetpilot' is identical in most features with the exception of shape and bluetooth.

5 out of 5 stars Garmin C530   January 19, 2007

I really like the Garmin C530. It does what its supposed to do and works well. I have only used it for about two weeks, but so far, I have found no flaws other than once in while, its a little off because of street changes and road improvements. They cant help that, because all maps change after a while. All in all, great product.

The only improvement I would make is that I would put a belt loop on the carrying case that comes with it. This way I could put it on my belt and not have to carry it. You dont want to leave it in the car.

After a few weeks, I have been pretty pleased with the c530. It was very easy to get started using it. I had it shipped to the office and put in my home address, it took about 10 seconds to find the way home. I didn't always agree with the route it chose, but I understand why it did. If I didn't know the streets and lights in the area like I do, I could have followed it and been just fine. Plus it recalculates and is right back on track in seconds.
I've used it twice in unfamiliar areas. It has a nice case and is easy to travel with and install in a rental car. It was flawless in finding my job site and hotel.
My only concern is it sometimes takes a long time to find the satelites when it has been in an underground parking garage all day. I haven't figured out why, it doesn't seem to have to do with weather or anything like that. Sometimes it just takes 10 minutes to come online. In the mornings, I turn it on in the garage at home and it fires right up and recognizes my security location so I don't have to enter the code.
I do like the security feature, assuming the crooks know what it means, but the tiny stickers for the door glass wouldn't be noticed by anyone that didn't know what it was. When I park somewhere I am uncomfortable, I just pop it off and toss it under the seat, out of site.
I'm still fidling with the custom POIs, but it attaches easily to the computer and looks just like an external hard drive. And the SD card slot actually means you don't even have to take the whole unit inside to customize it.
At first I thought I would wish I had purchased the c550 for the voice to read the street names, but now I am glad I didn't. For the additional expense, it would not be worth it to me and I would never use the MP3 player or Bluetooth phone connection.
All in all, I am very satisfied and would recommend the c530.

EDIT: I would like to update on the comment about it being slow to find its location. After several more weeks, I have not noticed the c530 taking more than about 2 minues to find where it is. Maybe there was something wrong with the system when I first wrote this.

4 out of 5 stars Garmin StreetPilot c530 GPS Vehicle Navigator   January 19, 2007
I am very pleased with the unit overall. Upon receipt, I promptly took a 3 week road trip in the Pacific Northwest. The functionality of the unit is very good. It was quick to set up and easy to use. I had read some reviews prior to purchase which stated the unit did not always give accurate routes. I did not find that to be true. My wife and I put it to the test going to some fairly rural areas and it never failed. It does have glitches that are to be expected. I was looking for a store that was in a mall, I did not know that fact at the time, the unit couldn't place the store as the address does not match the exact physical location of the store. Ounce experienced, easy to eliminate future like type experiences. I would recommended this unit if it meets your functionality expectations.
