My wife has been lost and now she has been found. January 11, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this as a Xmas present for my wife, who very picky about directions and about electronics. If she doesn't like something she will take it back or call the company to correct the issues. This has not happened.
With the Navigon 7100, my wife is in love with it and uses it everyday. It has eliminated all the arguments over her perceived misdirections.
She is okay with the touch screen because with have a history with Palm Pilots and the stylus and the Navigon has the same sensitivity.
Great product with a company that has a long history in the navigation industry. This company is very proactive in improving the product by taking feedback from the users and applying or correcting suggestions. This is an up and comer. Move over Garmin, Magellan and Tom Tom.
Navigon 7100 January 10, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased the Navigon 7100 and I like it.
Pros. The Navigon 7100 reality and 3D view is very good. It displayed the freeway's signs and pointed to the correct lane/lanes to take when approaching freeway interchange. The TMC feature is very useful especially if you live in Los Angeles. I have encountered several instances where there was traffic congestion. I sellected another route and it navigated me through local streets to my destination. Living in the Los Angeles area, traveling through local streets during freeways rush hours is a plus. I owned a Magellan and when sellecting an alternate route during rush hours, it will redirect you to go around a short section of the freeway and bring you right back to the same freeway. The reception on the 7100 is great. The processing speed during recalculation is very good, faster then most other brands. The start up time is good, but is is still faster than most other brands. Free lifetime TMC service is a plus plus.
Cons. On local streets the Navigon 7100 will tell you that you are about 0.1 miles to turn onto the cross street, when you get close the the cross street it tell you to turn now. This can cause some confussion, because it doesn't continuely monitored the distance from 0.1 miles to the cross street. On some of the other models I haved used they will continuely indicating how many feet before reaching the cross street. I have encountered problems with the 7100, when finding local streets that are too close to each other. I was traveling down a local street, the 7100 told me I have 0.1 miles before reaching the cross street. When I got close the the cross street it told me to turn right now, but the problem was there was another small street before the one I was suppose to turn. Now if the 7100 had indicate how many feet was left, it would not be so confusing, luckily I was only testing the unit. Another problem I have with the 7100 is its ability to calculate the speed of travel. I was driving home and when I got close to my street it told me to turn right now, and I have no problem with that. I decided to test the unit out by circling back and increased my traveling speed. I have traveled pass my street before the 7100 told me to turn right now. The other models I used will be able to calculate my traveling speed and told me to turn in time, but the Navigon 7100 couldn't.
Overall I recommended the Navigon 7100
Traffic!!! Avoid or Ignore January 8, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well, the story started with Traffic alert of 7100 unit with life time subscription. It actually saved me a few occasions on the road with proper traffic alerts. So, I think the unit pays off already. Few complains are battery life too short, the traffic alert dialog stays up till user intervene, impossible to conduct conversation on hands free due to noise and lack of subsequent supports from Navigon US web site. With that, this is not a perfect unit but I am keeping it ... ;-)
Navigon 7100 January 8, 2008 Excellent product and Amazons price was the best. Navigon is relativerly new here in the US and extra mounts or antenna are not available here yet. The mount that comes with the unit is super and I wanted to purchase a second mount for my second vehicle. The parent company in Germany shows all accesories on their web site but the price in Euro's which is cost prohibitive to have shipped here. The unit itself is excellently made, clear screen and very clear speach. I found it very strange that the US distributor doesn't have access to all the accessories yet and that is a problem. I've written a message to the parent company and the US distributor using their web site and have not received a response in over two weeks. They advertise a response to most messages within 48 hrs. The US distributor does respond to phone calls. Possibly these are just growing pains of a new company here in the US. If you want a excellent product but can tollerate poor support this is an excellent buy.

If you have any hesitation about a GPS SYSTEM leave all your doubts at the dood. It doesn't matter where you are or where you are going Navigon has you covered. Weither you are on foot, bicycle or in your vehicle you are always confident that you know exactly where you are going.
A good investment and for the peace of mind it is cetainly worth every dollar.
