3 out of 5 stars reasonable product with room for improvement   November 30, 2007

sometime strange routing solution. Traffic function is not very useful since it can not show different level of traffic jam. heavy traffic and gridlock traffic is the same level of yellow traffic indication.

4 out of 5 stars Navigon 7100   November 30, 2007

After a lot of research decided to buy Navigon 7100. Have features same as other competiters for less price. Lifetime map update and trafic subscription made me buy this GPS. It worked great have no issues in reaching my destinations. Only concerns are touch screen not sensitive enough to a finger and you have to use stylus. Even there is enough space on the lcd screen but icon and text is small hard to read while driving. Also lcd view angle is about 90 degree and when you move on one side or up or down display get dull and not as good as if you are sitting right infront of GPS. As compaired to my last GPS garmin 660 when I walk inside my house it change location about every 25ft but I am not able to see any changes in my current location unless I walked about 300ft with Navigon 7100. POI need improvement I tried to find walmart, home depot, Lowes and kmart etc but could not find them unless I enter exact address for these stores. I hope Navigon will provide an upgrade to fix these concerns and will provide options to customize font and icon size.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent GPS   November 29, 2007

GPS units are easily stolen, so utilze the PIN protection offered by this GPS. I only had mine for 10 days before thieves got it out of the console of my car during church.

FAST satelite acquisition, beautiful screen, female voice is slightly electric, speed limit feature works on highways, but not on smaller roads, quickly reroutes and finds fast routes. I never had a problem with inaccuracy, very stylish looking, looked fine in my bmw, traffic antenna fits into speaker jack, so you can't play external speaker and traffic concurrently, speaks the street names to turn on, which is very helpful, good info for driver at lower areas of gps, but too small for my 49 year old eyes to see quickly.

Best features, bright easy to read touch screen, logos for gas and resturants, so you can see Shell or BP coming up, not just gas. You can see McDonalds or Wendys, not just food. Bluetooth, and it recognized my phone easily. Comes with 2Gg card with maps preinstalled. Just pop it in and travel. Free for life traffic service.

Negatives: Text at bottom is small for reading quickly. Menus could be improved.

1 out of 5 stars Very Poor GPS Receiver   November 27, 2007

I have bought this unit after watching an ad on TV showing that it have a reality mode where you will see real views while driving. I decided to buy it but then returned it 2 days later after navigating with it on 3 trips. I was disappointed by the POIs which are VERY few as I was comparing it to my son Mio, the battery life was very short despite that I charged it all night through, and there was no reality view in NC as advertised, and the navigation was not accurate. I returned it back and bought the Mio C720t which have a fantastic database of 12 million POIs, VERY Accurate Navigator, a camera that register the location and the navigator can take you back to the same location, and a LOT more of bells and whistles. Sorry Navigon, your unit looks fantastic, but functions poorly.

4 out of 5 stars Reality View rocks!   November 26, 2007

I did a lot of research on "personal navigation devices" before selecting this one as an "early adopter". To me, the distinguishing characteristics of this one were: (1) Reality View, which shows you at a glance what the freeway exits will look like, and (2) lifetime traffic reports, which can save hundreds of dollars compared to the competition. In addition, it announces street names ("turn right on Main Street" instead of "turn right") and has lots of points of interest.

After about 2 months, I remain very happy with this device, and would select it again if choosing a GPS device. It's not perfect - sometimes it will say an address is on the wrong side of the street, and the Bluetooth connection to the phone can be hard to pair. I haven't experienced the issue of a slow interface that some reviewers have mentioned, and the letter keys to enter a destination don't seem small or cramped to me. It's one of those things that it's best to "try before you buy" if possible. I haven't checked to see if it came with a 2 GB SD card (it's supposed to come with 4 GB, but they had problems in the beginning). I am concerned that I'm supposed to have received a rebate check by now, and it hasn't arrived yet. I'd also like to see a Navigon or third-party additional mounting option. In California, you're not allowed to mount it to your windshield, and I don't want to have a base permanently mounted on my dashboard.

The best part is definitely Reality View. I'm also impressed with how fast it picks up a satellite signal, and how it's able to "lock on" to the signal even when the unit is not near the window (it's down by the center console).

As stated above, it's not perfect, but it's still the one I'd buy if I were to do it again.
