4 out of 5 stars GREAT ITEM!!! Worth the $$ and better than most others   May 30, 2008

Great features. Initial reaction was not good. Then i tried the garmin and Ipaq 310 and realized how great the navigon was!. YES , its a little harder to use then garmin or tomtom, but once you learn it, its great!
Pros:
The text to speech is amazingly accurate.
traffic works great!
free map udates, version 1.2 out on their website
reality view helps(initiall i thought it was silly and pointeless, but i have yet to miss a turn like i did with garmin or ipaq). ITS really hard to miss an exit or turn with this device( love it)
exit signs, warning signs, visual all perfect

cons:
Not to happy with POI, things like walmart, target are hard to find
no auto shut off
no auto day/night mode
The stand/holder looks great in the car and takes time to use, plus mine spoilt in 3mts , bt warranty covered replacement
a little slow when checking turn by turn

Bluetooth is okay,

OVERALL a great product for its features!

4 out of 5 stars not too bad   May 29, 2008
overall this product is great the pros: great options like lane assistant and virtual view hands free works great. cons directions are'nt always the best or fastest route, although it uses windows mobile it does not copy your phone contacts. traffic advisor doesnt work either for some reason it cant get a solid or strong enough signal to report but im working with customer service to fix that. but in the end if i compared it to the garmin i think the map view on the navigon takes the cake.

2 out of 5 stars POI are not complete, takes side streets, good user interface   May 29, 2008
It looked very nice. Very good and organized interface. The main problem was that it nearly had no lists of stores or department stores on its POI which can be very disappointing if you are in a different city or state and need to go to stores for shopping or whatever, you will never be able to get there unless you have the full address and enter it on the unit. I called customer service to ask about that strange unexpected thing, they said that each unit has its own features and you have to choose what you need and they added that this unit just had lists of other POI that a traveler may need on the road such as gas stations, hospitals... etc. but it had no stores or department stores because, according to customer service, you usually know where they are..!!! Do I know where Costco or Walmart are in a strange city??
By the way, Their customer service rep. told me that stores may be on the updates to be released on May 14th, 08. That's what he said. Not for sure.
When I got it in March 08 I tried it with destinations I'm familiar with. It strangely took me through side narrow streets that were even farther and may take longer time, besides being not the straight way to go. I thought " What if I'm in an unfamiliar area?" Actually, I had to return it to Costco in a week and got my full refund.

1 out of 5 stars Do NOT buy   May 29, 2008

This item is a very poor excuse for a NAV system. First off touch screen requires you to use a hard nail or you get no response. Second the battery life is terrible. Barely lasts one hour or so. Dont even want to go into the screen is not bright and the several other shortfalls.
I will predict this company will not survive so do not buy something that is poorly designed as this. I will also tell you I never ever complain on the many many tech items I buy. But this unit is so poor I had to comment. Just printed the return label and back to Amazon it goes.

2 out of 5 stars pretty maps but no very reliable   May 25, 2008

pros: personally, the navigons have some of the prettiest maps I've seen. it looks a lot like what you would find from google maps (navteq maps perhaps?). I think they're easier to read then the maps from garmin/tomtom, and the interface (GUI) is pretty slick too. the reality view is a nice feature and the large 4.3" screen is a must have. time to recalculate routes are quick too.

cons: some suggested routes were not the most efficient. in one case this unit suggested me to take a VERY convoluted route home when I knew better. the unit seems slow when entering information, and navigating through the menus could be faster - in fact the menu lag was the very first thing I noticed about the unit.

all in all not a bad unit but I'm giving this unit 2 stars, and no I would NOT buy this unit again. I'm actually returning it to costco. the unit broke after about 3 weeks of light use. so what went wrong? the batteries ran out and the unit shutdown automatically. when it was rebooted w/ the AC charger plugged in, there was an error (this unit runs on some sort of stripped down Windows platform) and then nothing worked after that. the unit wouldn't accept any input no matter what you typed and it would default to Hawaii as the current state/location. the antenna also stopped working so it couldn't even pull up a standard map. I tried resetting the unit but that didn't help either. I would pass on this unit. I'm going to try a tomtom next.
