Affordable text to speech GPS August 4, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased to 260W because I needed an affordable and easy to use GPS with text to speech. It mounts easily with the suction cup, and stays mounted. The LCD is easy to read, even in my area of Arizona (bright sunlight). The menu is easy to use, and the unit was a little over $250.00 shipped. Pedestrian mode is useless, and it takes some time at boot to find enough satellites. All in all, I have used better and more expensive Garmin models, but for affordable text to speech. I really like this unit. It gets me where I need to go without breaking the bank.
LOVE this gadget! August 3, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The only arguments my Husband and I have are because he has major anxiety when he drives in unfamiliar territory. I purchased this Garmin prior to going out of state on vacation and guess what folks?? He survived! My youngest daughter named our Garmin "Pam our navigation specialist"! On our way home to Alabama on the interstate, "Pam" made us exit onto a state highway around Birmingham and we wondered why, only to find out later that the Vice President was in town and the interstate was shut down! "Pam" was well worth the $$ spent, I highly recommend this product!!

This GPS is very slow; it takes about 10 to 15 minutes before it actually calculates a route when you first turn it on. Also, the maps, points of interest, etc. are definitely pre-2007 or even older than that, which I didn't know.
We're very happy with our Nuvi August 1, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
We have been very happy with our Garmin Nuvi 260W that we purchased recently. This is the first GPS system that we have purchased. I've only used one with a car rental a couple of years ago. With that one you could not program or put in any address if the car was moving. With the Nuvi, we get streets and turns announced by name which was very important to me. Can't put up with the "turn in .3 miles" prompts. So far we have located new places and businesses and doctor's offices just around our own area. It has already saved time AND gas by keeping us from getting lost. Maps are easy to see with the wider screen too. When we can travel (if gas prices get better) it will be very helpful. I would recommend this one to everyone. Mary Ann

This item works well as I expected. I'm still learning how it works on everything. So at this time I am very happy with it so far. Thanks Dee
