WOW July 28, 2008 I bought this for my son! He loves it, downloaded cool things to change the auto that displays, police car, fire truck and 18 wheeler! Garmin is the way to go! I looked in to TOM TOM but Garmin on me over.
First GPS July 28, 2008 I must say that this is new to me. Road maps and internet directions have gotten me this far. I have a good sense of direction but the Garmin nuvi is outstanding! I used it to get to a golf course that I have never been to before. Got me straight to the clubhouse. The smaller streets that are not loaded is fine with me, I just need the main roads.
Liked it so well I bought another. July 28, 2008 I purchased this item anticipating a trip into unknown areas. I loved the low price and easy use. The set up was quick and easy, and I started using it right away. My wife liked it also, so I bought a second one for her. She's not much of a techie, but still is able to use it without trouble.
Very useful and great value July 28, 2008 In the six months since I bought a Garmin Nuvi 200 for one son, the price has dropped considerably. My other two each have one now; my in-laws and two of my friends have also purchased the same model. I think that says a lot about it--his "sold" all of those. It is small enough (about the size of a deck of cards) to be slipped into a pocket, purse, or the map pocket of your vehicle, and yet easily readable, bright and colorful. The volume is adjustable from no sound up to loud enough to be heard above your sound system (at least my sound system). It audibly announces your turns, at more than one distance, so you can get ready to turn. If you miss a turn it says "recalculating" and either gives you directions back to that spot, or if a reroute would be closer than those directions, it reroutes you. I think of it as a safety feature that you can choose "points of interest" from the menu, and find the nearest gas station. It's also useful that you can find nearby restaurants or stores. A great purchase! A lot of peace of mind for under $200.
great buy July 27, 2008 Bought this unit because I wanted a basic GPS. two of my siblings own this exact same model, and my father owns the 250 (he needed maps for Canada) and thus far they all have worked great. Got the updated (2008) maps for free from Garmin's website (Maybe because I bought the unit within a certain time frame? I do not know for sure) Whereas my dad has to pay for them (he bought his much earlier) I have found a few errors in the map data, one of the points of interest was out in the middle of a field, according to the 200, but I knew full well it was 2 miles in the other direction.
Also, I have not figured out what the SD slot can be used for, new vehicles had to go onto internal memory, as did the additional Mapping data, meaning that I had to delete the extra languages in order to make room (not that I needed them) but it was a bit of a hassle, and makes the SD slot seem useless. All in all, it works great, and it's affordable.
