Couldn't live without it ! September 13, 2008 Taking and following directions have been more than challenging for me since my head injury in an automobile accident. My husband is unable to drive (he has been in cancer treatment for more than 2 years) I certainly wouldn't have been able to take him to all the locations he was being treated, hospitals, rehabs and now hospice. I am now using my second GPS since the first one(a gift from friends who knew what we would be confronting)was stolen from our car. I am so grateful that a product like this exists. I spent years drawing maps and printing directions from the computer. Not any more. Thankyou GPS.
Good, but with one significant shortcoming September 12, 2008 It's hard to beat the 760 for bells and whistles, but instead of the Bluetooth and the photo viewer and the mp3 player, I'd much prefer a unit that didn't have a noticeable lag before the spoken directions were given. My 760 would give accurate "turn in" directions on the screen, but the spoken ones were delayed by .1 - .2 miles, enough to miss several key turns when I was relying on the voice directions.
Come on Garmin, you can do better than that.
great product September 10, 2008 love it. very simple to use and directions are pretty good. yeah sometimes we just need to use our common sense.
disappointing September 10, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
We bought this unit, and tried it out on a couple trips. On the first trip, it got us LOST! It kept trying to make us turn on a street that ended in a parking lot, with no other way out. Luckily, we sort of knew the area, and were able to get ourselves out of the mess.
The lack of features on this unit makes its high price a real puzzler. The old maps are unacceptable. It sometimes takes 10 minutes for the thing to find a satellite, and we are in an urban area. It doesn't always "speak" the needed route in time to keep up with the exits you need, especially in downtown areas where there can be many exits packed into a short space. It takes it too long (a minute or two) to "recalculate" when forced (by construction or new roadways) to take a route other than the unit's recommended route. I expected it would have a button on the front you could push to request to look at alternate routes, preferabley several at once. It could not find restaurants that had been built just 2 years ago.
very dissapointed September 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The unit freezes whenever I miss a turn and it tries to reconfigure the route. Then I have to power it down and up to get it to work. It often tells me my stop is on the opposite side of the road when obviously it's not. The voice could definitely be louder. Can barely hear it at full volume in my work truck.
