Garmin nuvi 750 4.3-inch Widescreen Portable GPS May 3, 2008 We are very pleased with the Garmin, it does everything stated in the reviews and is so ready to recalculate when one changes directions. Would recommend this item for all those who get lost easily.
exquisite GPS...worth the money May 3, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this as a birthday present for my wife. We both have been very pleased with it. The screen is exceptionally bright (even in sunlight), and the directions are dead on. It quickly reroutes if you miss a turn or take a slightly different route than expected. It has been used throughout Wisconsin as well as in Chicago with no errors. The touchscreen controls are intuitive and easy to use. I find it incredibly useful that it speaks street names instead of just "turn left in 0.4 miles." This is the biggest difference between the Garmin 600 series. The 800 series adds voice activated controls.
My only disappointment has been with the FM transmitter. It does not have a great deal of broadcast strength so even in areas with few radio stations, there tends to be a fair amount of static. The internal speaker has sufficient volume though (even at highway speeds) so this is a small quibble.
We have not had a lot of opportunity to play with the points of interest feature--but it does seem to know all of our local restaurants. All in all, great GPS and well worth the expense. Amazon had the cheapest price (via electronica direct) by far--beat everyone else by over $100.
The True "Never Lost" system May 2, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought the Garmin Nuvi 750 about 2 months ago and couldn't be more pleased. My first GPS was the Magellan 700. I switched to Garmin after receiving absolutely pitiful customer support. Support was not in the US, and I found it extremely difficult to understand the support person. His solution was to give me 10% off of a new Magellan from their website. This price didn't match even the most expensive local non-discount outlets.
Back to the 750. There's so much to like. First, there is the compact size with a still generous, easy-to-read screen. Second, I love multi-destination routing. With gas approaching $4.00 (Thanks Bush Lite), I had planned my trips carefully. Now I let the 750 do it for me. I enter in my destinations, and then let the 750 choose the optimal route. I also enjoy the multiple dialects available for giving verbal directions. I've found the British woman easier to understand. I've also used the French version to brush up on my very crusty French.
The 750 allows for driving, bike riding, and walking. Its size makes it ideal for this. (Clue: If you set the 750 for walking, be sure and remember to retun to driving mode when you return to your car. I forgot to reset it, and on a trip of about 5 miles across town, the 750 kept saying it would take about 5 hours!)
The on-screen instructions are intuitive. I had no problem figuring out the most frequently used tools.
When I purchased the 750 Amazon had a deal to get $100 if you signed up for Audible Books. I made the one year purchase for around $140. I get to download a dozen books into the 750. Too bad Amazon isn't offering this discount anymore.
A couple of suggestions. Garmin doesn't tell you that when you register, you'll get the latest updates. I always register expensive equipment, and I did with the 750 but not for a couple of days. The updates are absolutely essential. Secondly, how much more would it cost to add an in-home charger and a carrying case? The after market cost of these items are over priced. Come on Garmin, make us completly happy with our purchase.
Obviously, I could go on and on about the 750, but I'll stop. From the reviews I've read, customer service will be fine. I tend to be brand loyal, and because of service, Magellan lost my long time business, and, in the process, I discovered a better product.
Kind of disappoint! April 30, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Even know I have updated to the new firmware, the signal still take a long time to lock on. The battery last just more than an hour. Every very disappointed that the car charger is not even included with this model 750. You will be sorry if you planing a long trip without the car charger. With the big name like Garmin, I think we deserve more than that!
Go Garmin! April 27, 2008 I ordered this unit for my son's birthday. I was so impressed with it overall that I may order another one for me when I get my tax refund. I couldn't be more pleased!
