SECOND GARMIN GPS July 29, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
MY HUSBAND AND I TEAM DRIVE CROSS COUNTRY AND JUST LAST YEAR DECIDED TO GET A GPS AND TRY IT OUT. GUESS WHAT I DON'T GET LOST ANYMORE AND MY HUSBAND CAN GET HIS DAYTIME SLEEP WITHOUT WRITING DOWN DIRECTIONS. AND IF THERE WAS A DETOUR HE WOULD HAVE TO GET UP AND HELP ME. NO MORE! WE FIRST BOUGHT THE NUVI 660 BUT RECENTLY EXPERIENCED A FEW PROBLEMS AND GOT WONDERFUL HELP FROM TECH SUPPORT. LOTS OF EMAIL AND STEP BY STEP DIRECTIONS ON WHAT HAD TO BE DONE. AFTER DOING ALL THEY TOLD US WE STILL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM SO THEY TOLD US TO SEND IT IN AND THEY WOULD EITHER FIX IT OR SEND A NEW ONE ALONG WITH A NEW POWER CORD THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN THE TROUBLE. WE RECIEVED THE NEW ONE TODAY THE NUVI 750 AND IT IS HOOKED UP AND WE ARE BACK ON THE ROAD AND WE LOVE IT. LOTS OF GREAT NEW FEATURES. WE OPTED OUT ON THE BLUETOOTH AS WE DIDN'T USE IT WITH THE 660. THERE IS SIMPLE TOO MUCH NOISE IN THE CAB OF A BIG TRUCK FOR PEOPLE TO HEAR YOU WELL AND WE BOTH HAVE HANDS FREE EAR PIECES ANYWAY. OU ONLY COMPLAINT IS THAT LIKE ALL THE TRUCKERS WHO USE GPS'S WE TRULY WISH GARMIN WOULD PUT ONE OUT FOR US WITH HAZMAT ROUTES, BRIDGE REQUIREMENTS AND OTHER THINGS WE NEED TO KNOW. SOME STREETS WE ARE SHOWN CAN NOT BE DRIVEN ON BY A 53 FT TRUCK WITH A SLEEPER CAB. PLEASE GARMIN REALIZE THAT LOTS OF TRUCKERS NEED YOU!!!WE LOOKED AT ANOTHER BRAND BUT CHOSE TO STAY WITH A TRUSTED GARMIN. NOW I WILL HAVE ONE FOR MY DODGE HEMI AT HOME! I WILL BUY EACH GRANDCHILD A SIMPLE UNIT WHEN THEY BUY A CAR! AMAZON IS AN AWESOME PLACE TO ORDER FROM. CAME RIGHT WHEN THEY SAID IT WOULD. THANK YOU
Works Good but. July 28, 2008 I have had the Garmin 750 for about 2 months now. All in all it works great. The problem that I have ran into is that the unit takes an awful long time to get a satellite fix. I've hooked up an external antenna and don't have that problem anymore. Its very easy to use and will definitely keep you on course.
This Garmin unit is very good. July 26, 2008 It has all the major waypoints of the US, except for new construction of highways and roads, and addresses that are only about six months old. Perhaps there is a new dl for this new information. Perhaps someone can clue me in, about how to get it. Thank you.
EXCELLENT PRODUCT! July 23, 2008 I just recieved this navigation last night and I'm already in love! It's absolutely wonderful. It's completely user friendly and simple to use. The directions are clear and the text to speech is great.
The only complaints I have are small; 1. There is no lane directions. When you're on the freeway and there are 4 lanes going in 3 directions it doesn't show you which one to stay in like some other navi's do. 2. It does take a while at first to aquire the GPS connection. I think it took probably 5 minutes but that's when you turn it on for the first time. Otherwise when I started it this morning it took a few seconds to find the satellite. 3. This isn't really a problem anymore, but when I first started using the unit I was dissapointed to see that the "keyboard" was in ABC order, not QWERTY. But, I figured out that through Tools-Settings you can change it to QWERTY which is awesome.
Overall I think this is a great unit, especially for someone like me who's not looking for the bluetooth, MP3 player, etc. It does come with MP3 and an FM tuner but it's not a feature I'll ever use. I simply bought this model because it was the best model with a 4.3" screen.
Easy to use, does what I need it to July 17, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is my first GPS that wasn't strictly for pedestrian use (geocaching). I use a Mac (10.5.4), so I wanted something with compatible software. The software Garmin makes available for this device is excellent. This unit came with the 2008 maps preloaded but when I registered at garmin.com I received a free update to the 2009 maps (and a firmware update).
I've only had it two days now, but my favorite features so far:
- Voice notifications are common sense. The GPS isn't yelling out "Turn in 200 feet" while you're waiting at a stop light. Also, it tells you the street "Turn left on Main Street" versus "Turn left in 200 feet". - The Mac software works. Get Bobcat for sure. Find the mac software here: http://www8.garmin.com/macosx/. Their browser plugin, Garmin Connect works in Safari. Read that again... Garmin Connect works in Safari. - You can create a myGarmin account and have geocaches uploaded to the unit via USB. Pinpoint a location, select the surrounding caches, and Garmin Connect handles the upload. Too easy. - QWERTY keyboard. Or ABCDEF if you want. - Auto-routing. Garmin calls it something else, but there is an option for creating a "best route" from a bunch of points on your map - Auto correction. Take a detour during your trip and the nuvi can get you back on track.
I bought this for an upcoming move and house hunting trip. I was able to plot 30 homes and neighborhoods I wanted to look at on Google Maps. I used takitwithme.com to convert those points to a GPX file. I used Bobcat to import that GPX file to my nuvi 750. I used the nuvi to create an optimized route (with my house as the start and end point) automatically. So now, when I get to this new city I *should* be able to hit all 30 areas in a single day, without driving all over the place. I'll post an update after the move, but so far I've been pretty impressed with this GPS.
