very good fm transmitter June 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had the itrip for over a year now. I've used it a lot. I've driven cross country both to the east and the west coasts, and it worked perfectly almost everywhere. Some city areas have interference, but it works surprisingly well even in cities. I also used it all across Ireland with excellent results. I went through a few other fm transmitters before finding this one, but they were all very disappointing. Here are some specific things that I like about this one:
1. the signal strength is much, much stronger than any of the other transmitters I tried. I don't have to hold the ipod up to the antenna the whole time, it works fine in the middle between the seats.
2. it can actually be set as low as 87.9 (the specs say it only goes down to 88.1, but that is wrong. This is good, since 87.9 is very rarely used, and I have very good luck with it tuned to that station). There is also an international mode that would allow you to tune it to other stations, but I don't remember what those are at the moment.
3. It is powered by the ipod, so there is no need to plug it in. It also has a plug on the bottom which allows you to charge the ipod in a car while it is transmitting. It doesn't come with the car charger, but I had one for something else and it worked just fine. It's just a standard mini usb port (I think.. there are two different kinds of mini usb ports , and I'm not sure which one this is).
4. It is very small and easy to carry around in the tiny case I carry the ipod in, so it's always with me when I have my ipod.
5. I am able to plug it into my ipod without removing the ipod case. I have one where the bottom is open, but some of the other ipod fm transmitters still did not fit without me removing the case.
Overall I am very pleased with this transmitter.
itrip and usefullness June 10, 2008 i paid 25$ and some change for this item with free shipping. works great. u will need a charger (more than likely) for this item as it drains the battery on your ipod fairly rapidly especially if you are constantly changing songs or skipping songs on random mode. setting a playlist and leaving your ipod alone you can get 3-5 hours of constant play. i prefer this i-trip better than the ones that already have the car charger affixed to the i-trip as those are a big bundled mess of wires that you always have to carry along with you regardless if you need them. you may want to purchase the one with the charger affixed if the primary use is in a vehicle...otherwise i think you will be satisfied with this. HAVE A BLESSED DAY.
It is wonderful that you dont need cables, but slow signal May 29, 2008 Overall it is a good product to take with you everywhere, you dont need cables and the quality is good, but you have to put it very close to the radio. For the price it is an excelent ITEM. I had bad look with the Seller (Blue Proton) but the service of Amazon is excelent and they helped me to get a refund. BlueProton did not respond to my emails.
DON"T SEE HOW I LIVED WITHOUT IT May 27, 2008 Ever since I got an iPod, I use it all the time. When I cookout on the patio I used to pull my truck close and use it to play my iPod. Now with the iTrip I can use my portable radio / CD player that I already have outside to play my iPod wireless. This is a great little item. Any that owns an iPod should have one of these. It is a little static sounding but is understandable.
too weak May 25, 2008 I have two Volkswagen with in-window antennas in the rear windows. Obviously the iTrip is too weak to get the signal through the car! Even it it works in the standing car, as soon as I started driving the signal got disturbed pretty fast. Currently for me a lost investment, perhaps I try on of the bigger ones but unfortunately it is complicated to get info about signal strength.
