Nice features for a mobile internet device - Music player meets PDA October 19, 2008 The iPod touch is a portable music player with Wifi, so you can run a version of the Safari internet browser. It's a good alternative if you don't want the exclusive Phone service that comes with the iPhone, iPod's big brother.
Pandora is the killer app for this device. While being able to carry 1000 songs in your pocket is nice, there are other ways to do that. What makes the iPod touch special is that you can downloads free and non-free applications from iTunes store. A version of google maps is available, and the first time you use it with a Wireless Access point, you'll probably get creeped out a little bit that it knows where you are most of the time.
The integrated Wifi makes it easy to use Pandora, a music service that allows you to listen to music that you would like, based on your preferences. The Wifi range is good, although not as extreme as the range on the XO laptop.
I use mine with a screen protector, and an over-the-ear headphone Skullcandy SC-BHESH07 Hesh Headphone, Black, which allow me to shut out the outside world when I need to.
There are a few missing features, including lack of audio input (no VOIP phone) and the lack of a user-replaceable battery. The biggest issue for some will be the lack of ability to share apps from device to device, like the early palm pilot PDAs. Apple wants to control the apps you run on the device, so it may be a while before peer sharing is acceptable.
iPod touch as PDA October 17, 2008 I purchased the 16G iPod touch as a replacement for a Palm OS PDA. I knew the music capability would be a no brainer, but was very surprised by the video. Until the applications mature, I will still need my PDA from time to time, but it is not on my person, as it has been in the past. Overall I am 150% impressed by it's performance, and 15% disappointed by it's capability. It needs IR and Bluetooth. p.s. This review written comfortably on tv touch!
great product October 17, 2008 This is a great product. I recommend splurging for the 32g if you can, it is worth it. This product is extra phenominal when you get the iphone update for all the apps and if you have a .mac or mobileme account. This is a portable macbook! I LOVE this ipod, just make sure you take the time to learn all it's great features!

i enjoy it. it was 198. the wifi doesn't always work. it doesnt pick up wifi networks when they are really there
UPDATE October 16, 2008 if you bought the 1st gen ipod touch you should get the apps update its 10 bucks and its the coolest thing ever with all the free games you can play.. the only downside is apple.. the product itself is amazing but the service ive dealt with thru apple is not the greatest (not amazons fault thats why i still gave it a 5) i recommend that if your going to buy a 300 dollar ipod that you look into the care plan because my ipod does not work (never realized it till i got the update) but theres a 1 inch bar right in the middle of my screen that does not work. and its 8 months old and apple dont do ANYTHING to it unless i give them 30 some bucks.. and then and only then will i get a REFURB. the warranty is not what they say it is so either get the care plan (its worth it) or dont try and get a new one if it breaks.or stops working
