IF YOU HAVE A PRIUS, IT'S THE BEST CHOICE OUT THERE November 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you have a Prius, this LiquidAUX by Kensington is the closest thing you will get to a perfect car-phone interface. No, you cannot control it from the Prius touchscreen, but the charger and aux input fit in the center console and you have enough lead to the dock connector to put your iPhone/iPod just about anywhere. Me, I have a Kuda leather mount on the dashboard, a Dice charger cradle, and the Kensington fits in the cradle dock perfectly. The iPhone is then right next to my touchscreen, and an easy reach to control the iPod or phone. I would like about a foot more of dock cable, but the 3 feet length is good enough.
If you had the $15 Belkin cup holder/iPod holder it would work there and the cable coming out of the center console would be even more discreet. I love having my iPhone in easy sight while driving so I can read (NOT send) text messages or see caller ID. Phone calls go through the built-in Prius bluetooth and music plays though the aux line, and the phone switches flawlessly between them.
The only drawback is that voicemails still don't play through either bluetooth or the aux line. For that you have to switch to speakerphone. I think that is a bug within the iPhone, not this Kensington device.
You will, however, need to get a ground loop isolator. You can get them on eBay or Amazon for $10-15. If you don't, the sound gets staticky.
I have gone thrugh about six different methods of linking/charging my iPhone 1G and 3G in my Prius, and short of getting a $250 kit and paying $150 to get it installed, this $55 kit is the absolute best option out there.
Half-way there for iPhone 3G November 11, 2008 The product contains everything that you need to work with the iPod functions of your iPhone 3G but misses the mark when it comes to handling phone calls.
Previously, I used a simple headphone-type cable to connect my iPhone to the Aux input on my car stereo. In addition, I had a separate cigarette lighter power source hooked up to charge the iPhone. Using that two-cable configuration worked to charge the phone, listen to iPod audio and to use the phone hands-free.
Using the LiquidAux setup eliminates one cable, but does NOT allow you to use the phone in a hands-free mode as before. Very disappointing.
You also get some vehicle ignition whine from this unit that was not present from the previous charger.
Finally, the remote control seems to work on a hit or miss basis. You sometimes have to resync the remote after taking the iPhone from the vehicle.
The old two-cable approach was not as elegant, to be sure, but worked better than the LiquidAux. This product would probably be great if you simply wanted to use it for your iPod, but if you have an iPhone, forget it.
Doesn't isolate electrical noise October 29, 2008 This product does a poor job of isolating electrical noise generated by the car. It was simply unusable for me with my car.
Better than advertised! October 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was somewhat worried about my purchase after reading the reviews...then I plugged it in and it is AWESOME! I am using it with the Iphone3G in my Subaru Outback and there is absolutely no problem to set it up. I got no error messages, and it was automatically paired with the remote that fits snugly on the steering wheel. The extra long cable is a nice feature, but the standard one is just fine for my setup. There is no whine or static over my car stereo, and I have cranked it up. The sound is incredible and the phone continues to charge while I play my tunes. Now being stuck in traffic is no problem. This is a great product.
Cant use this w/o an auxiliary port October 23, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I did not realize that this product requires that the car have a direct auxiliary port. Since my car doesn't have one, I haven't been able to use it.
